during my secondary school years i spent 3 of them with a MA club in Galway based in Ballinasloe/Loughrea with a "head office" in canada of all places connected to a school in Japan and one of their black belts was kevin Cassidy~Casey(second name not so sure of) and he was my trainer amongst a few others. i did mine in New Inn Co. Galway. I got to third level belt but moved away to college and could not continue it due to the distance away from home etc

Im looking for information as I enjoyed it and am in a position to rekindle my passion in MA but I have tried one or two other forms and none compare to the physical and mental level needed for the form i did. To my memory it was a "harder" level to shodakan as when i tried shodakan in college some of the moves i used were not allowed and i have found some other forms of MA "weak" in what u cannot do etc it was never full contact or throws etc but the sheer skill we had to learn and use ,contact was not the main aim but the power and skill behind the contact was what was most important

I live in tallaght and are intrested in joining a local club can anyone help im back in shape(lost 4 stone) but it would prob take me a year to get back to where i was in flexibility and agaility and general fitness

    pm or mail me

    Gerry,

I've tried (as I'm sure you have) to Google "Kevin Cassidy Casey Karate Galway" But got nothing!

Can you remember anything about the style at all??

Although TWOKINGS wud be the most convenient school to join as its so close, if u r interested in continuing Karate i am a member of a new MMA school in Dublin. Weve hit some trouble at the moment, as in we dont have a dojo anymore, but we will be definately be getting back together soon. The style is based on Kyokushin Karate, and also has BJJ, Judo, Boxing and Sambo. I dont know if u know anything about Kyokushin, but it is a full contact style of Karate and trains bare knuckle. Kyokushin sparring wud be quite similar to Muay Thai, mainly cos the founder of Kyokushin added some Muay Thai kicks to the style. The main difference between us and the majority of the other MMA schools around is that we do the traditional training too - Kata, Kumite etc. U can find out more about us on www.mma-ireland.com
However, if u do not like the idea of travelling into the city center to train, then u r better off joining one of the local schools in Tallaght.
Either way, best of luck with ur future in Martial Arts.

    Dave.

it was definetly shodakan based but when i went to one later in life it was "easier" in its sparring stances kicks etc the one in tallaght mentioned in the thread is good for the work out but im more intrested in the arts aspect along with the excercise which i got from what i did. i read up on a school with similarties with what i did on the net but it is on the north side and from the soundings of it my school was a off shoot thanks for all the help guys will keep the old eye out for ads etc might give a few a try until i find something close to what i didi

You could just try out any Karate Schools in your area?

Find an instructor that you think you could get along with and get things rolling through that club for a bit until you find the style you were doing before.
