I'm the self confessed dummy, when it comes to computers anyway :o .

Hi, I was wondering if anyone on here would be good enough to give me a simple run through of how to go about creating this 'back up' disc thingy, you know the way you take a snap shot of whats on your computer and in the event you lose everything off your computer (like what happened to me last week) you can get it all back by using the disc you created. Did that make sence? I hope so :)

Anyway, can someone go through the procedure step by step for me, or point me to a good source, one that doesnt have all these techinal phrases and such. Thanks a million!

    Regards,

    Croppyboy

PS, I'm using Windows XP home and have Nero, I think you need that too, not sure.

I generally back up the my documents and that covers everything important within it. I also back up some hard disc only software i have, This would at least give me the very important and sentimental stuff any the rest could be reloaded from the drivers that came with the pc provided you still have them. That happened to me too within 3 months of getting my PC, i was a XP noob too and i have learnt the hard way how prone it is to viruses. I generally back up monthly. There is ways to back up the settings etc. But i don;t know how, i too would apprecite if i could find out how to back up properly also. do a google serch it might be productive.

    [EDIT] Check this out[EDIT]

A very crude but simple way is to zip everything in My Documents and copy the resulting zip file to a CD (or DVD, if you have loads of files) using Nero.

    That's what I do.
