Hi there, I started a thread during the week about how my motherboard died and I now need to replace it.

I've decided I want to salvage
    • AGP Graphics card
    • Hard drive
    • RAM
    • Sound Card
    • Floppy Drive
    • CD-DVD+RW

And throw them into this (with a new processor) barebones unit

    https://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=302364&cks=SER

    My questions are

1)When I install the CD/DVD drive onto the new MOBO, will the MOBO recognise it without a driver (or does it use a generic CD driver to enable windows installation)

2)As the hard drive already has a Windows installation on it (configured and installed with the previous MOBO) will it cause problems when installing it?

3)Will it be hard to build the new setup with the mix of old and new parts?

    Thanks in advance

    1) Windows will recognise it using a generic driver
    2) I would format the hard drive and do a fresh install.
    3) Depends on your knowledge, but shouldnt be a problem.

1 Yes it will work fine, but what kind of ram have you will it work in the the new motherboard a, Its a socket 939 so im presuming DDr3200 ram.

    2. Windows Xp wont boot, others will after a trip to safe mode. Xp is locked to the hardware you installed it on. Besat to format and wipe as said abopve as windows will use the new hardware better if its the only hardware it knows.

    3. Fairly easy be gentle taking out the parts of your old pc and be static free and its fairly handy.

    What is your ram?

Thanks for the advice lads, it's appreciated.
The RAM is pc2700, that means it will work in the new MOBO but only at pc2700 speed right?
