Going to buy a CX at mo . It's a 1983 Prestige currently on ebay.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEBI%3AIT&rd=1
What are your opinions on CX's etc Is it an accepted cit for the classic car club etc. I see it as a first Cit before I get a DS.

    regards

    Hi Spidersonmars

The CX is absolutely a classic - becoming more so. This is a great time to buy a CX if you intend to keep it for 5 years or so, as if it is a good one, it will appreciate in value. I've only driven one (a '76) but I enjoyed it immensely - a great sense of occasion and a very different drive.

Have you had this car inspected? If not, I wouldn't touch it - Citroëns are really really good at hiding rot - you've got to know where to look, and the best way is to get an expert to look for you.

If you're ultimately after a DS, it is arguably a better car to cut your teeth with than a CX. There's less electronics, less electrics, more robust engines and (generally) better build quality. They are undoubtedly more expensive, though.

    Hope this helps.

Your link doesn't appear to be working. Is this the car?

Fair play to you for considering it. As DS says, the CX is a definite classic. I think it is starting to come out of the "banger zone" with more people appreciating them today than say 5 years ago.

There is quite a lot of info on the CX on the internet. Buyers guides and so on. Google search to find them. IIRC there is also stuff posted in google groups (i.e. the USENET newsgroups archive) If you haven't done so already you should immerse yourself in all of this info before buying.

Lokk at the amount of legroom in the back of those CX's !

    It unreal !!

I recall a friend of my folks used nothing but Citroens in the 70's. He had a new CX23 Pallas (does that sound right) Anyway I was fascinated with it ! Beautiful ride quality and quirky dash ! Obviously as a young fellah I never bothered to look in the rear !

Got out bid with 4 seconds to go!! would have loved the chance to do 500mile trip in a 22 year old citroen that I wouldn't have had a chance to look over before buying. What could have gone wrong?
