Just wondering does anyone agree that Christmas adverts etc. should be banned until maybe the last week in November,it drives me mad when they start early, it kinda ruins it if you know what I mean!

    Anybody feel the same way?

last year RTE showed 14 consecutive "toy" ads at the tail end of August.

Do you also think that, for example, Summer holidays should not be advertised until the last week of April?

Playing "Fairytale of New York" in October would ruin it.

I'm not too worried about the ads... it's more about the shops having Christmas decorations and stock before Halloween that p*sses me off big time.
Went to Dundrum a few weeks ago on lovely warm day just wearing t-shirt.... gazed up a Christmas tree on roof...
It's just wrong I tells ya!

What about that bar in Templebar that had an xmas themed night during the summer? Thats wouldve been fun, they had snowmen and everything!

This is possibly the worst: BACK TO SCHOOL! written on chalkboards in Michael Doherty's in July. Thank someone I never have to read them again.

The commercial Christmas season begins earlier each year. Personally I don't think shops should start getting their Christmas stuff in 'till the beginning of November at the earliest. Every time I go into a shop and see tinsel and santa hats around the place it's just a sad reminder of how material and consumer driven we've become and how businesses will do anyhing, even rape the corpse of Christmas, to make a large profit.

Then again I don't particularly like Christmas so I may be slightly biased. :)

Im not a big fan of Christmass myself, so having it advertised two months before hand pisses me off

Whatever about ads, Christmas music should definitely be banned until the first week in December. The Christmas ads on TV used to annoy me, but I don't watch as much TV any more. It's true that Christmas being built up for three months makes it feel like an anticlimax when it finally arrives, though.

Wow, I didn't know so many people felt so strongly about this topic. I've always noticed Christmas decorations out before Halloween, but it never really bothered me...

    Banned?
It's a free market economy, and Christmas is it's biggest annual cash cow. How could you implement any ban?
Personally I ignore/switch off any xmas ads that early on, and make a point to boycott the product/shop/service being touted. If more of us did the same the marketing robots might get the f*cking message that joe public is sick to death of commercial christmas...
