I'd like some advice on how this looks for basically a gaming rig - I cant see much point in going for SLI due to the hideous expense...

    Asus A8N-E, nForce4 Ultra, Socket-939, ATX, PCI-Ex16

    AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2GHz Socket 939, 1MB, BOXED w/fan

    2x Corsair XMS3200C2 DDR-DIMM 1024 PC3200 64Meg x 8, CAS 2-3-3-6-T1, 400MHz, 6ns

    XFX GeForce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express, Dual-DVI, VIVO, 450MHz

Silverstone SST-LC03 HTPC, Black Aluminium (Without PSU)

Cooler Master Real Power 450W w/Power indicator, 20/24pin

NEC DVD±RW burner, ND-3550A, 16x, Dual, Black OEM

    Western Digital Raptor 74GB SATA 8MB 10000RPM

Plan is to mount the raptor in one fo the 5.25" bays using dampeners to quiet it down a bit, and use the 2x3.5" internals for a raid 1 array for my data (I have the two drives already for that)

Couple of questions - the above power supply will handle the above kit I trust? Power wise AND connector wise?

Also - is there anything I should change to get more kick to it? Would a 16mb cache @7200 hard-drive outperform the 8mb@ 10000rpm drive for instance? Should I be looking at a different version of the 7800? Is there notabley better performance or OC ability on a different motherboard?

Im currently running an Athlon 3000, GX6800 agp 128mb, 1gb ram on an ASUS A7N8X deluxe....

The above comes in at 1500 eurons, which is pretty much my ceiling....

    Thanks for any advice.

    B

i know you dont want sli now, but why not leave the option open for the future? the sli version of that board isnt too much more expensive.

I'd go with a better PSU. Antec / OCZ / Seansonic would be a better choice.

Case is nice, card is good (XFX is one of the better brands), ram is decent (Although if ur gonna overclock, consider PC4000/PC4400).

cheers - thing is - i KNOW im not gonna spend 200-300 quid on a 2nd GFX card... and by the time I would need to, It would probably be time to upgrade either the card or the whole system? I mean, is there likely to be any game out soon that would push a system like the above? Im assuming I could run essentially everything at Max on the above setup? Or si that niave?

the 7800s hit a bottleneck with the cpu so I would not worry about any problems with games.

    Better psu is needed.

Ever think about going dual-core. Its the future
