Playing any Amiga Games lately?

With WinUAE 1.0 out for some time... I have been trying some of my old favourites... I keep coming back to Mega-lo-mania. This is one of my favourite early "Sensible" games. It was released by Mirrorsoft at the time.

Played SWIV last week got to near the end... although I couldn't see myself playing this too much... time is more demanding these days. Great shoot'em up though.

    Anyone play anything Amiga-ish lately?

not lately. Found WinUAE a bit awkward to set up although no I've found http://www.lemonamiga.com/ that might change.

I still go back to gravity force (free on amigapower coverdisc 50..which is online somewhere) for simple two-player fun. I got 5 DVDs of them recently but I havent had a chance to try them out much. I wouldnt mind giving settlers a go again if it runs okay. Frontier was a big dissapointment for me as it doesnt run very well.

Hamster, did you grow up anywhere near dungarvan/stradbally? I knew someone called hammie (as in hamster) from there

Sorry Silver, I missed replying to this thread. Better late than never. To answer your question I was a couple of miles outside of Kilmacthomas. :)

Xmas 2005 hmmm.... Going to play a bit of Mega-lo-Mania, Monkey Island and Pinball Fantasies this time round.

Pinball Dreams/Fantasies was excellent alright. I also get a good bit of playing done on Rainbow Islands, Stunt Car Racer, Flood and Speedball 2.

Hmmm... I have never played Flood before. What type of game is this? I must look this one up.

Hunter was another unusual game and was an amazingly open ended 3D arcade strategy game with the player controlling a soldier.

Must use WHDLoad more often in WinUAE but saving via snapshots (states) is almost as good now. :D

Hey guys. Just thought you might be interested to know that you can now get the classic Speedball 2 on the iphone. Not quite identical to the original, but just as addictive. One of the best sports games ever in my opinion.

winuae is a sinch to use and better than the real mig,i suspect some can get errors as games are not running at the correct specs, there where so many mig revisions and specs, some games where programmed for older specs.

Body blows,no idea why i liked it.

Liked that too except for that Kossak chap and his drill through the floor move. IK+ was a much better game though.

I'm guessing it's because there's no decent version of street fighter 2 on the amiga or even mortal kombat (MK1 and 2 did look stunning on it).

SF2 was horrendous on the Amiga. All I remember of it was it took up 14 disks or so, dear god it was crap.

Think it was just 4 discs. Just felt like 14 with the amount of swapping you had to do.

You're correct so it was, maybe I was counting the swapping. Still an awful pile of crap. :pac:

The loading times were ok with a second drive. Once you had played the snes version the illusion of it being a good conversion was shattered :( However you did get a Blanka pin which I still have! Amiga +1

Either I have the wrong version of MK 1&2 on my Amiga or you're playing it on an emulator with some crazy filters, as to me they like absolute arse! Worse than the Megadrive and Snes versions.

I was playing a first person polygon space shooter flight sim type game a couple of weeks ago (can't remember the name) and one thing I noticed about the Amiga, when effort is put in, the framerate can be pretty damn amazing. Smooth to the point where I think someone has to have put a graphics card in there.

But then on the other hand you get some crazy shoddy ports. I was really excited booting up Mercs..and then I nearly vomited. It's very hard to predict the quality a game is going to be, the port of Silk Worm is brilliant.

Was that Frontier (Elite 2)? (Doubt it would be Elite since you'd know that game :pac:).

    Guardian?-

And yes SF was woeful on mig, wasnt a suitable platform, when you look at body blows,it had limited frames but the sound effects and game play made up for it.

There was CD32 street fighter turbo which had europe release ,very rare, but was rubbish on bog standard CD32 but adjusting the cpu/ram speed on winuae made it "playable" i guess-

I'm pretty sure I have that CD32 street fighter turbo game. Must have a look and give it a go on the actual hardware and see how it runs.

It's been a long long time since I played it and I was very young so you are probably right.

It was neither Frontier Elite 2 or Guardian, but looking at videos, the two of them are much more impressive versions of what I was on about regarding the Amiga polygon/framerate abilities. It really is an amazing little machine.

Has anyone seen Starfighter 3000 on the acorn archimedes? It was a game on a computer that was true 32-bit and gave us the RISC chips that power most of our consoles. Remember this game is on hardware from 1987 (well I think it's 1987 hardware):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueae6bfPYaM

Skip ahead to see the gameplay. Fully texture mapped polygons running at a decent framerate.

Think this was 1994. I had the 3DO port of it and enjoyed it.

I find myself playing Stunt car racer alot on my Amiga. Everytime I turn my system on I seem to put the disk in. It's a great game!

Before working on the FX chip for Nintendo, Argonaut had the Starglider games on the Amiga.

Starglider 2 was particularly brilliant. Really smooth graphics and it was pretty much a sandbox game. You could fly around inside planets, travel from planet to planet and even fly into the sun and have your ship melt. All in a single load.

What got them noticed by nintendo was X on the Gameboy:

Crazy what they did with the hardware.

Speedball 2 was and still is one of the best sporting game. sure alll these new consoles have great graphics but not have as much fun and are all slow as hell ...or if they are fast their control is very limited.

speedball 2 had everything...speed...control...deadly one player league thingy and class playing two player and hockign the be jaysus out of each other

Of course sensible soccer is number one for me...greatest sporting game every made FACT
