Burning a DvD With Nero.

Rite so im trying to burn about five video files (mpeg i think) to a dvd through Nero vision express 6 and i have the video quality set to extended play which nearly fill up the dvd disc. When i go to burning settings i set the write speed to max which is 8x i think. But when it comes to the actual burning process screen the estimated burning time is about 20hrs. Is this normal? I'm using a phillips DVD+-rw and as far i as know its a dual layer burner. Any help and advice would be welcome.

Nero has to convert the files to dvd format before it can burn them. Thats what'll take so long.

It depends on the speed of your computer, it has to re-encode the film to suit yer dvd player. It usually takes about 1 and a half hours for me on a moderate spec machine.

Well when i use dvd shrink to back up my dvds it never takes me more than an hour an a half to do everything and my pc is only a few months old.

But dvdshrink is transcoding mpeg2 to a lower bitrate mpeg2. What you're doing is encoding various files to mpeg2. This will take longer. If it takes one and a half hours for dvdshrink then I'd say 20 hours could very well be right. It takes about 25 minutes to transcode a DVD on my PC. Is your PC a celeron by any chance?

Yep i think its celeron. Is that the problem?

It's partly the processor, turn down the settings to default again and see what time it estimates.

Pretty much I'm afraid. Video encoding + Celeron = :(

If you can afford it (and the motherboard will let you), you could upgrade your precessor to a P4, that would be a huge improvement. Apart from that, reducing the quality of the mpeg file your converting too may help a bit on time, but you'll end up with a poor quality video.
