Get the package from sayit or usit....I wouldnt wouldnt worry about accomodation and jobs, half the fun i had was not knowing what was gonna happen and looking at different places. Each to their own tho....

Be sure you have got the apartment sorted 100% before you go ..otherwise you will find yourself in a horrible situation. Accom in NY during the summer is very difficult to find and tends to be very expensive with the usual security deposit of 2+ months rent. Landlords are weary of leasing to J1 students and irish students.

When I was there (summer 2000) there were numbers of J1ers who made campsites to stay in public parks in Yonkers and the like .. quickly stomped out by the NYPD.

Jobs are not that easy to comeby either. If you are male be prepared to graft hard at furniture removal or construction work for long hours. Women tend to find work easier in diners and bars.

But once you get settled it is a quality city and a great experience.

Whatever you do, don't book it through go4less. They're a complete and utter joke.
