The Sky One picture very bad since sky 3 appeared. Is this permanent does anyone know or am i just imagining it. Its really bad on a 42in tv. Close to unwatchable actually. Was reading digitalspy and it seems its a problem specific to ireland. i'm on sky satellite

on the Sky One Ireland transponder we have

    Sky One
    Sky Two
    Sky Three
    The Box
    Kiss TV
    Q
    Community Channel

    thats 7 channels

no wonder the picture is suffering

Far too many channels being squeezed into multiplexes these days. It's bad enough with cr4p shopping channels, but with more "watchable" channels, you'd expect a better picture.

Any more than 5 or 6 channels on one mux is a no-no, in my opinion

Has anyone noticed the "in-joke" with the colours for the Sky 1/2/3 logos.
Sky is white, so no surprise but the "one" "two" and "three" are blue yellow and red respectivly. These are the same colours for the o, n and e on the 1993 Sky One ident, the same one that had the Sky in a circle and three square blocks for the letters o, n and e and the o, n and e were blue, yellow and red!
If you search google for the old ident you should find it, I will attach a picture of it later anyway.

The strangest thing is that I only noticed this in a dream last night :D

You were dreaming about Sky? That is worrying! :D

    Well spotted though!

Here is the '93 ident that I was talking about.
    Dreaming about Sky?
Yeah, only I was looking up the channel idents that night so the images were fresh in my mind.
Most of the time my dreams range from nice to morbid and sometimes just disturbing :D

Might this not be a coincidence? Primary colours are often used in idents. Red and Blue are Primary video colours and Yellow is a primary Ink colour.

Yeah that is true, but I just thought that it was interesting that it only happens on the Sky 1/2/3 and it could also be because Sky 2 and Sky 3 are sisters of Sky One, the channels are related so they share a theme etc etc

Anyway this is a little off topic so back to the matter at hand.
I have noticed no difference in Sky One at all, neither on my neighbours Sky+ setup nor on NTL. Perhaps it only affects people whos setup weakens the signal, they could try replacing the LNB with one that has a higher gain, or replacing the whole Dish and LNB for the same reason.

    Going back on topic.

Would this move have anything to do with Skys move to HD TV ?

Their motive could be to have us all wowing at its clarity and signing up-bearing in mind that the cable co's are rebroadcasting services from the same over compressed source.

Incidently ITV1 meridian south is also woefull lately. It looks more like a full screen streaming broadband picture complete with blockyness:mad:

Sky one is the same as watching tv i've downloaded on the net for me.
Very blocky. Movies are fine. RTE is fine. Sky one has only got bad in the last week

I have Sky One UK on my EPG, though I don't watch the rubbish much. But, how about tuning in Sky One UK into Other Channels, and seeing if the picture quality is better? There are only 6 channels on that transponder.
