Hi all.... turns out I should have paid more attention to ram errors... Last nite I checked the RAm using the MS windows memory diagnostic checker thingy... Ran it on extended test and got 121 errors on the first pass.....

Now I need advice.. is the tool any good? Is my ram as bad as it seems...
    Heres a link: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Its Ballistix ram and the errors are all when random read writes were done. e.g. ERAND... LRAND, etc.

Ive never used that but memtest86 is the most common one out there AFAIK.

    Download it here: www.memtest86.com

Yeah used that one before and got 7 or 8 errors.... Are all errors bad?

Your computer may run fine with the damaged memory. However, your operating system may be unstable as well as applications you are using. If they try to write to the damaged memory addresses then this will cause errors, crashes etc.

Yeah thats what seems to be causing the crashes... getting errors like "00000000a" in the system log. It was only crashing games, and after 10/15 mins. Though it was gfx problem but card is fine... then thought mobo/gfx card incompatibility(nForce3 and 6800GT AGP... grrrr!!) but thats seems to have gone away. And the ram errors are very annoying and probably the problem yeah?

How many memory sticks are installed? If theres two test them individually, one of them might be ok.

yea this happened to me aswell last week. Ran memtest on 2 seperate 512mb sticks of ram and one kept giving me back tons of errors. So when i ran my sytem on the good stick everything was perfect. U fortunatley i still had to rma the both my stick so my system is down at the mo :(
As far as memtest goes, read the website and it will tell you everything you need to know about the tests. The main thing is that it is best to run these tests overnight or as long as possible(random memory checks are more effective the longer you run them).
