Is your computer set to boot from the SATA port your drive with the installation is on?

If not, use the other port or enable boot from the SATA port you are using through BIOS.

Had the same issue myself when I installed XP on my new home built pc. What you need to do is install a SATA driver, to allow it to recognise the drive itself. You should have gotten this driver with your Mobo. Either that, or download the driver from the mobo manufacturers website.

Choose to boot from the xp install disk as normal at startup, and you will eventually see an option along the bottoom as the blue screen comes up at the start of the install. This option will say something like, "Press F6 now to install a third party RAID driver". This is what you are looking for! ;)

XP doesnt support SATA out of the box, so this is what needs to be done in order to make it work

so does this mean the drivers off the dell site is not what i need

The drivers off the dell site will do. I thought you had maybe built your own pc or something. Check the dell site for sata drivers for your pc.. these are the ones that will need to be saved onto a floppy and loaded at installation start up ;)

strange - i reformatted an 8400 and the raid (changed from 0 to 1) worked fine
