I pre-booked (paid 20euro deposit) my 360 a few months back in Game on Dawson st. Chap in the shop told me I was around number 20 on the list.

just wondering, does that mean i'm guaranteed one on release day?
and also, can i pay the remaining sum now or wait til i buy it?

I'd imagine you should get one then no probs. I know Smyths in the Airside Retail Park were allocated 66 consoles.

To be honest , I've been thinking the same thing myself. A good recent example was the PSP launch. Everybody prebooked , then qued and they were still in the shops 5 days later.

I'm not bothered about paying money to prebook. I'll buy one of course, but i'm not overly worried if I have to wait a few weeks longer than everyone that prebooks. Might buy one on ebay anyways.

Also, (i've never pre-booked a console before), by pre-booking, does that mean I can walk in at any stage after the launch date and pick it up?

Also, any Game employees: Any ideas on how many consoles each store will get?

Game in Liffey Valley told me they weren't taking pre-bookings....and only have signs up to "Register Your Intrest" which is what I did, but it doesnt mean they will hold one for you :(
Guess I should have went to town.

Not to be a smart arse, but being a veteran of console launches, even if you've prebooked, if you can (skive work lol), just get to the shop as early as possible. (some store employees will still manage to sell your pre booked console to someone even though your name is clearly written on a post it note attached to the box!- This happened to me at the launch of the Dreamcast & Xbox!)

Even if you're, say, number 50 on the list for a 360 in Game on Grafton St. but get there at 9:30 on the 2nd of Dec, it's not as if they're going to turn you away by saying 'Get back number 50!', as long as you've pre booked and get to the place you've pre booked early enough, you'll get one. This has rung true for every console launch I've ever bought a console on.

Does anyone know if any shops are still taking orders for the 360?

Tried a few places yesterday in my innocence and all said orders full (Smyths, Game & Xtravision)

Anyone know what the best approach is to get my grubby mitts on one of these bad boys asap? Any shops in Dublin that can guarantee me on before Christmas?

Amazon dont seem to indicate when I'd get it if I pre-order.

Try 3G, the one in Dundrum was taking them about 10 days ago.

Xtravision in Navan are still taking preorders, I went to order one but then had a change of heart when they told me about there bundles, they have 3 bundles.

    from memory they are
    1. Xbox 360 core system
    2. Xbox 360 Core system + memory card+ game
    3. Xbox 360 Core System + Hard Drive + Extra Wired Controller + Game

I asked why they did not have any Xbox 360 systems and he did not know, I think its strange that they are only ordering the core system especially when they have disply boxes for the other system on the shelves.

Also I wonder how many people realise that they are gettignt he core system rather than the Xbox system which includes the wireless controller, a headset, and a media remote plus different cables.

AFAIK its only this case with xtravision which baffles me as maybe they get a bigger markup on the 360 core system, i was in another few shops and one of them said that they are not getting any core systems at all only 360 systems which is more like it.

hey guts , ahve been trying to pre book a 360 , ever where is booked up around dundrum/ bray area, will travel any advice ?? I noticed thats virgin is a tenner dearer than game 409.99 vs 399.99 for the complete system

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭JacoStanley

The system is 409 everywhere in Ireland. The reason xtra-vision are only pre-booking core systems and bundles is that the 409 version is completely booked out. In fact, we were told to stopping booking core systems yesterday in dublin north.

    Folks,

Ya gotta think outside the (x)box.....

Harvey Norman in Swords were still taking orders at the weekend, on a 'pay any deposit, those who pay in full have preference' stylee...

Paid €409 upfront, have receipt, bring on 2nd Dec!
