O'Connell Street Luas?

Has anyone got a map of the plan ? On the LUAS through the city centre will it go up O’Connell St so that it can be transformed back into a building site just as the repaving work is completed? This is the obvious route as it could link up with the Broadstone line quite easily via Parnell Square but it does seem like the redevelopment work to date will have been in vain. Possible alternative would be Marlborough St.

Also in terms of scheduling the Iarnrod Eireeann interconnector and upgrading to DART should be done first.

Ah, I have always favoured the O'Connell Street route, I think it's the ideal environment for trams to be honest, BUT, with the metro determined to go directly under the street on it's way up to Phibsboro it seems a touch silly to duplicate the route when Dublin has so little rail to begin with. I now favour the Luas route to the west (Capel Street) so long as the metro is definitely going under O'Connell Street. Assuming the tram does go along our main street, I don't think the disruption will be too bad as they'll only need one carriageway and the cost will likely be small in the context of the scale of investment overall.

It's a pity people like you aren't in power. It beggars belief that the Interconnector is so far down the list.

Nobody will tolerate O'Connell Street being lifted again. The best option now is to cross the Liffey from Hawkins Street to Marlbouough Street on a new Luas + Pedestrian Bridge and then to share the red line to the Four Courts and run up to Broadstone from there.

Hmmm, seems to me that route would result in the Luas & metro cris-crossing over each other. That's why I favour bringing rail further west.

I always favoured the metro further west, to interchange at Jervis, but that's not to be, so I think I'd prefer to see the Luas go there now as to the East of O'Connell street will be 2 rail crossings of the river.

At the end of the day, no route should be struck off the list simply because someone doesnt want a road dug up. It would be worth the hassle in the long run if it is the right street to dig up.

Did you notice how long it is taking them to stick a few paving stones down on O'Connell Street? It's been going on for years, I can't understand the delay. Imagine if they try to run the LUAS down there, we might see it sometime in 2030!

In fairness, they have only been at the North end of O'Connell street for about 6 months now, and its almost done.

Mind you, If it was Paddys Day tomorrow they could do it overnight. Again.

In fairness how long will the new tram lines last ?? several decades probably and a few years inconvenince would be well worth it.

Spotted this link on the Archiseek message board. Interesting one.

By the way, Murphaph - did I see you refer to "our main street" earlier in this thread? ;) Or are my eyes deceiving me this late in the week?
