    Hey all,

Just wanted to share my first experience in dealing with Chris. I have just ordered this little beauty from chris and the overall experience couldnt have been better.

Surprisingly, he included a case as part of the price without me even asking (how often do you find that in Dublin?)

His prices are fantastic and considering the volume of emails he must receive, his service second to none. I would encourage anyone who is thinking of spending a few quid on a guitar, bass, amp, etc to check out his site.

In saying that, the guitar hasnt arrived yet..so heres hoping it arrives in one piece :p

(By the way, thanks again to Doc J for letting me know it was there.)

Chris is a legend in these parts, Sean :)

That is such a sweet looking guitar and already vintage, 28 years old!!! Imagine how much it would cost you over here ;)

Very cool looking guitar and I think we all probably owe Dr J one for bringing Chris's Guitars to the masses.

That's a very good guitar for that price. It's made in the Gakki factory in Japan. Think thats where Tokai's come from (Tokai-Gakki) so if its anything like a Tokai you're onto a winner. Congrats and lets us know when it arrives. And take lots of pics too ;)

Beautiful guitar, man - congrats! :)

Out of interest did you email or ring Chris?
I emailed him three times about a body but got no reply and now it's gone :(

Thanks folks - As I've said I'm chuffed with the guitar.

(To Ancient 1) I emailed Chris - I made sure that the emails subject box contained the specific instrument and my offer. I'm sure he gets quite a few emails on a dailey basis and by all account, his Irish customers are also keeping him very busy.

I actually think his preference is email. On Doc J's advise, if you dont hear back within 24hrs, send another (I didnt need too).

Check out the reviews on Harmony Central

Sounds good. I'd love a nice hollow body like that

Same kind of thing happened to me on two different occasions.
What Chris said to me later in an email was "the main thing I'd like customers to know is that if they do not get an email response, resend it. Sometimes it takes 2-4 tries before I catch it"

Looks like he's ripping you off though... All the folks on H-C bought them for under $200. Though I suppose they were pawnshop purchases, not set up or anything.

Check the dates, the HC ones were bought for under $200 in the 80's! :D

Hahahaha...Oops. Dont ya just wish it was still like that?

Yeah one guy reckons it would be worth $1000 dollars today. Might be wrong but might be right and in that case he got a bargain. Anyway to me he got a great price if the guitar is as good as its reviews

People still don't fully appreciate the quality of Japanese instruments. If that Electra had a Gibson logo on it it would be $1000 more expensive, just on the name alone and the little "Made In USA" tag, regardless of the quality or lack thereof. The most encouraging part of those HC reviews is that, unlike the majority of HC reviews, they were written by guys who've been playing at least 20 years and know what is good and what is not, and also that none of them have changed or modded the guitars in any way which speaks volumes for the quality of it. $575, that's the bargain of the year!

Whats shipping run to for guitars + customs and taxes? There was an excel spreadsheet calculator here at one time but search is disabled....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Johnny Storm

VAT and Duty spreadsheet is in the Musical Instruments Resources sticky

    Hey guys,

Thanks for all the kind words. Just to let you know, my new guitar arrived safe and sound this afternoon. I've only played it though a small 10w samick practice amp I have at home...but it looks and plays beautifully!

I cant wait to play this thing through my fender tube amp on Sunday!

Again, to those looking for a new guitar..I'd keep an eye on chrisguitars.com

I'll post a few pics over the next couple of days

    :D
