In short, the family doctor isnt the best and I want to change GPs. Can I just show up in the waiting room of another local doctor? Is it that straightforward? As long as he's making money Im sure its all the same ;)

You have to register with another GP and get him to request your records from the old doctor.

You have to call your new GP's surgery and ask if they are taking on new patients, you would be suprised how many aren't. I recently changed GP and it took me a while to get a GP, some of them were like no we are full, youre not in the catchment are, even though the surgery is just up the road! When you do get a new GP they will go through you medical history and request files if necessary. It makes u think how much GP's earn when they can turn away business!!

My local GP at the time was literally just around the corner. However the two times I went to him, first time he asked me "How long do you want to stay sick?" and the other time was "Oh your actually not well".

I just went to another GP who was a bit more professional. He asked me if I had another doctor, told him, that was it.

When my GP started playing dolphin sounds in his surgery and took to sitting on a big silver ball and giving out pointless homeopathic remedies I jumped ship to another GP... I just showed up at the door... no problems changing at all.

I just wander into new ones whenever I like... they usually have times set aside for 'open clinics', any i've wandered in to, asked my name address and contact number. That was it, no case history or any of that jazz.
