There are usually ways to avoid such things. You can install one of those 'enter the numbers/letters you see above' type jobs, or another way is to rename the html/php pages which contain the commenting code, as these files are usually the first thing a bot will look for (if it can't find the standerd filename a bot doesn't know where else to look).

Assuming you're using a standerd piece blogging software (wordpress etc.) do a google search on how to eleminate comment spam on it and you'll undoubtedly find something to help you.

    Hi there,

if you are using Wordpress to power your blog/site, then the answer is simple. Just get the SPAM KARMA 2 plugin. I'm not kidding when I tell you that this plugin effectively kills all spam at my site.

I was getting crucified with spam at my blog (http://www.avalon5.com) until I put this plugin in, and since then not a single spam gets past. I also use another plugin called BAD BEHAVIOUR.. so with both of them on the job I've had no spam issues since.

Honestly - can't recommend the SPAM KARMA 2 plugin highly enough. Go to http://www.wordpress.org and look up the CODEX for how to fight spam, and you will find a link to the plugin sites mentioned.

    Hope this helps..
