Are there any *region free* DVD/Video combos in Ireland? (any that can be chipped?)

    Hi all

Im having a nightmare finding a DVD/video combo in Dublin that can be chipped or hacked to make it Region Free. Any of the ones listed with Power City or Peats seem to be unhackable. Its also a must that it has audio out connections.

    Anyone?

Have you actually checked against the likes of http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php ?

Id a good scan of that site for about 90 minutes earlier and came up short when it came to DVD/Video combos. Im presuming they're much harder to hack than stand-alone DVD players.

    Peats have 2, a Sony and a JVC - http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/shop/db.cgi?view=1&id=7895&type=5&path=10x4064

Neither are listed unfortunately (and JVC havent a great reputation)

Try getting your hands on a Samsung V5500 Combi. These should be hackable.

Yep, just to second what Byte said...I have a Samsung dvd/video combi and found that most of the Samsung combie's were hackable.

Other than that, (although I havent looked) could you try Richer sounds or Amazon.co.uk as they often sell pre-chipped/hacked dvd players and might have a combi already region free to save you the bother!

    EDIT/

Dont know how good it is but ehre you go a Toshiba one on Amazon thats Multi region

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009I6OAS/ref=br_lf_ce_1/026-2428397-7927617

    £89.99 +delivery etc

Have you got one Byte? If so could you check the back (or front in a hidden hatch) for red and white "phono" out sockets. This is an important feature for me.

I work in electrical store, so see quite a few of them!! :)

From there, it does have RCA outputs.

If I get a chance, I'll try hacking one, though time is limited this time of year :(

    I return.

I have tested a shop-display V5500, and can confirm that it is possible to make the machine multi-region! I had a problem getting the "region-free" 9 setting to store, but I got there! :)
