I am trying to set up a small home network between two pc's and am wondering if anyone can help.

    Details:

PC1 is running Win2K and is connected to Eircom DSL via Netopia modem with usb connection option.

    PC2 is running WinXP.

I have a Linksys Gigabit 8-port switch. This is connected to PC1 via ethernet cable. A Dell printer is plugged into the switch and both PC1 and PC2 can send jobs to this printer.

I have plugged PC2 into the switch via ethernet cable and tried to get online get I get a message saying very poor/no connection.

How can I get PC2 online?

    Thanks :)

Connect both machines to the switch via ethernet. Leave the printer connected to the switch. Connect the switch to your router via ethernet. Hope that works, if not just chuck away the switch and ethernet the pcs to the router and share the printer off one pc.

    Digi.

He's using a USB modem, not a router unfortunately.

On PC1, set up internet connection sharing on the internet connection, and make sure PC2 is set to DHCP.

doubt he cnn set u[ internet sharing on pc1 as it need 192.168.0.1 as the modem address. and that won't work for the modem. there should be a way to get the switch to work otherwise use some proxy server software or get a gateway or router

DOnt use the USB COnnection with WIndows XP Firewall enabled, it causes problems. its much easier to just use ethernet. If you want to use USB, you will have to disable the XP Firewall and set up a static IP for the machine
