now i'll probably have my own helicopter or be enjoying early retirement by the time all this comes to fruition but i was wondering if anyone knows where the propesed Metro stations are gonna be after the Airport (in the direction of swords) . Looks like there will be 5 or 6 stops or so .....

Is there a more detailed map anywhere?

Might be far too early to be checking this out but thought id ask !!

    thanks

As far as I know, just two at the moment. One at the Pavillions and one at Lissenhall with a park and ride. However I suspect Airside/Broimhe could get one too.

Contact Fingal County Council - Roads and Transportation Department and ask for their 'Metro North' report. That will explain all.

The alignment is pretty much set in stone and can be seen on their development plans:

The thinking has been to reuse the original (1985?) bypass, either one carriageway or the median used for trams.

However if larger vehicles are to be used, this might change.

That'll be good crack at the roundabouts. What's going to happen to the crossing traffic, though? There's a lot of local traffic around Swords that won't be on the M1.

That bypass, the R132 I think as it is now, is already full to capacity each and every day so the likelihood of that I'd say I very low.

I read in the Fingal Indo some months ago that the intention was to move the centre of the town more eastwards.... by removing the roundabouts and footbridges, building a retail district along the lengh of the old by-pass with the metro running up and down the current median strip. I'll look through the archives for something concrete...http://www.unison.ie/fingal_independent/archived.php3

They could easily go under the roundabouts. The huge advantage to this route is a) no land costs and b) they can use cut and cover at will. If the plan is to make the old bypass into the new main street then surface running is a non-runner and it'll have to be C&C but that's a lot cheaper than a TBM and the stations are easier to access as they're immediately below street level.

From what ive heard it will be a mix of elevated and surface along the entire length thus avoiding the roundabouts. Its a far cry cheaper than cut and cover. Dunno about that story regarding moving the town centre.

See below (Note alignment through airport has changed.)
