Father Ted reference in Family Guy?

I'm probably way off base here, but I was watching Family Guy (the "Petarded") episode, and there's a character called Agent Jessup in it.

It reminded me of Father Jessup (the most sarcastic priest in Ireland) from Father Ted.

I don't think it's a very common name, and they are spelt the same way. And I do think they kinda look alike:

    Father Jessup
    Agent Jessup

Anyone? Or am I just mad?

"Would you like a cup of tea father?"

"No, I'd rather die of thirst!"

    Just a coincidence I reckon.

"No, we came around by southern Yemen."

I don't think Father Ted was ever broadcast in America. Somebody complained about it being too stereotypical or something.

Unless the Family Guy writers imported the DVDs, it's probably just a coincidence...

It was broadcast in USA, on BBC America, that's where they got the idea for the American version of Father Ted which, thankfully, never got past the Pilot.

    Jack: "I'm sooo sooo sorrrrry!!"

    Ted: "Now Thats sarcasm"

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

yeh i think that guy with the white hair that's in bowfinger - can't think of his name but he annoys me to bits - was meant to play ted.

That would have been Steve Martin, one of the best comic actors ever, but still wouldn't have suited Fr. Ted
