I had a long report done last night, but the bloody server went down and I lost it.. Anyway, shorter report:

The place is great, excellent service, free beer & a constant supply of food blah blah.. The only pain is parking.. I found a spot on South Frederic street which wasn't too far away but poker players are a lazy breed!

The tourny had 46 runners. blinds were half an hour which gave us a lot of time to mess around.! Strong field with regulars from both the Merrion and the Fitz

After blowing half my stack (2K) in the first blind level with 33 and 68o in 2 consecutive hands I played some solid poker, got lucky with JQo in the SB (I personally think the button-raiser was lucky to find AK) and found myself at the final table. With 6 left I found JJ. I grabbed my coat and pushed it in. The shorter stack at the table found AQ and won the race.. I was left with 1 BB which deprived me of an additional 5 minutes sleep.. 6th wasn't bad for a card dead night. I'll be back, the place is VERY impressive.. Merrion and Fitz watchout!!

Like Niall (Ocallagh), I was ready to do a lengthy report when I came in this morning, only to find Boards server down ... agree with everything Niall said about the Sporting Emporium, v impressive indeed, in fact they are such a classy outfit that they even overpaid me by 500 euro when I was cashing out at end of a long night playing cash! LOL I only noticed after I got home, the colours of the chips apparently confused staff there as much as the players!

Tourney v good though, except for my cards! ... I dropped from 4k starting stack to 2.4k within the 1st three levels when I missed every single flop I saw, also folded AJ pre-flop to Norman's RR (he showed AA), then folded 88 the very next hand, again to Norman's RR (he showed QQ), one of those nights LOL.

Then, down to 2.4k, i find 99 UTG, raise to 1.2k, half my stack so everyone knows I am committed, and lose a race to a shortstack who calls all-in for exactly 1.2k ... then the very first hand of Level 4, I have only 3 BBs so I am all-in with AQ v KK and out ...

They eventually started the tournament with 46 players at around 9pm, an hour later than advertised but there were less than 10 players registered at the appointed starting time so I guess that's fair enough for a new club. Starting chips as I mentioned 4k ... levels 25-50, 50-100, 100-200, 200-400, 300-600, 400-800, 500-1000 ... I don't know how they jumped after that because I was KOed during 1st hand of Level 4 and never like to plan too far ahead LOL ... but at 4am there were still 5 players there, admittedly in total crapshoot territory ... blinds were 5k-10k, so average stack at that point had less than 4xBB ... I think it was chopped maybe 3-way, but I don't know the details, the 1st prize was to be 3k and they paid all 9 at final table...

Anyway, there were a couple of cash tables running for the night too, 50 PLO and 100 PLO ... not sure if any holdem cash game ever got going ... but I'll certainly be back, their nibbles are top notch and their coffee world-class! Only thing that was a bit strange about the place was being in it for the first time and knowing ALL the staff ... cardroom bosses, dealers, gaming floorstaff, waitresses, even the security LOL ... all from Merrion/Fitz!

it's on Anne's Lane, just off South Anne Street, which is just off Grafton Street ... basically down the laneway opposite Kehoe's pub ... 150 FO was last night, it's every Tuesday ... can't remember what's on tonight, the full weekly schedule of events is posted here on Boards somewhere if you have a look through past couple of days' threads
