Why perfume ads so weird?

    Subject.

I mean, okay, there's not a lot you can say about perfume apart from "oooh, it smells right nice", but the same can be said about, say, Carlsberg "oooh, it tastes of alcohol" but they've been doing quite nicely.

And it's every single ad, all arty and soft focus and stuff.

Was there a memo that I missed?

It's all about creating an image.

Actually, you could go into a fair bit of detail about what the perfume actually contains and so on but most people aren't discerning enough to make such an approach worthwhile. Things will be different after teh revolution, though!

Well if Carlsberg successfully sold their piss water for €100 a pint as the perfume companies manage to they would disappear up their own arses when it came to adverts as well.
