Going to Rome with the betetr half ina few weeks and am looking for some advice on places to saty etc. We wanna do the whole touristy thing with lots of sightseeing, so ideally looking for a hotel thats in easy reach of all the main sites. Looking for a 4/5 star hotel. Will be travellin with Ryanair, so estimates on time to the city would be cool as well.

Also, any sites that people can recommend?

All i know is the colosseum :)

Its about 45 mins on the bus into the city depending on traffic.

Any hotel near the main bus/rail station would do as they have an excellent transportation system there..

Places to see/do, check this website out:

    Lovely place overall

Anyone else have any other info?

What sites are there to see in Rome?

rome is one big site to be seen !!! get a good map, guide book and comfortable shoes and keep walking .. best and only way to do it.

As an alternative check out http://www.agriturismo.it, I stayed in a place 20mins by train out of rome and it was beautiful (gives the option of a rental car for some better excursions .. such as Pompai (I can't spell))

It is a cracking city and perfect for that romantic break.

    http://www.travelante.com

check that out for hotels in Rome. The Metro can take you anywhere in minutes for a couple of euro.. and you should be ready to walk a bit coz its a BIG place! : ) loads to see. Vatican - St Peters and the museums, Pantheon etc etc

I've been to Rome 4 times now, I love it so much. I stay in the Hotel Continental when I go. Its about a 3 to 4 star standard but its inexpensive, clean, comfrotable and close to the main train station which is great for access to the underground. I use the Lonely Planet guide to Italy and find it excellent for Rome, its always updated re: prices, opening times etc etc. So enjoy and be prepared for fabulous food, sights, experiences etc etc

This is cheating but it more of less covers the top things to see and do!!

The Metro service is brilliant, cheap and easy to get around but watch out for taxi drivers at Termini as they are notorious for overcharging (don't think this is as common since the Lira was abondoned but still....) Also be weary of street kids scugnizzi who are terribly cute but would rob you blind so keep a close eye on your personal belongings. Also, note that there's a sliding scale for drinks near the main tourist attractions. So you're charged an exorbitant amount to sit outside on the terrace as opposed to sitting inside. Check out Trinity Bar, very naff to go to an Irish pub abroad I know but it's full of Romans and a great place to meet the locals. You will have THE best time. Enjoy ;)

Been to Rome four or five times - it's a beautiful city really. Would recommend all the usual places - Colosseum, Vatican (if you wanna go see the museums, Sistine chapel etc. you have to be there pretty early as queues get crazy), St Peters, Pantheon, Roman Forum... So much to see if you just wander around.
Very cheap to eat as well if you stay away from very touristy areas. Don't sit down in coffee shops as they charge extra. We saw sandwiches for 8euro each a minute from the Vatican so be careful.
    Overall, enjoy!
