Hi guys, I am thinking about buying the following laptop from Dell:

    Inspiron 6000 (N11607)
    Processor - Intel® Pentium® M 740(1.73GHz 2MB L2 cache 533MHz FSB
    Memory - 1024MB 400MHz DDR2 RAM (2 x512 MB)
    Video Card - 128MB DDR ATI MOBILITY® RADEON® X300
Hard Drive - 100GB (5,400 rpm) Hard Drive
CD/DVD Drives - Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive with Software
Wireless - Intel® ProWireless 2200 802.11b/g Mini PCI Wireless LAN Card
    LCD - 15.4" Wide Screen UltraSharpTM WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) LCD Panel

My main use for it apart from all the usual would be video editing. Question is, is this spec good enough for that?

    Any help appreciated.....

Looks good, the higher the cpu the better & that's a nice big disk & 5400 rpm is one above the standard too. Can't see you having any problems with that setup but you do realise that desktops are traditionally faster & more suited to this work that laptops right?

unless you have another reason for wanting/needing a laptop I'd go with a desktop everytime.

Thanks Sector. I know that a desktop would be better suited, but I kinda need the portability aspect of the laptop, otherwise I'll be packing up the PC every now and again and moving it - that will really piss me off!

well, i would see if you can get something with a faster hard drive. I think you would notice the difference with video editing.

The other thing would be to give a little consideration to a macintosh. FCP on the macintosh is more-or-less the gold standard for budget video editing at the moment.

i'd see how much it is to up the HDD to a 7200RPM; not entirley certain how well a Pentium M stands up to a lot of editing - but i'd say it'll do the job.
i am admittedly going blind, and am half asleep but,uh,i don't see ports mentioned- is there a firewire port or how to intend on connecting (USB2.0 ?)

Thanks guys, just put in an order for the laptop, I'm happy enough that it will do the job, fingers crossed:) It has a firewire port also so should be sorted..
