I was in Budapest recently for a few days while interrailing, but was very sick at the time. Mostly my adventures there are about the mysteries of medical care in other countries. However, most people wko have ever been to Budapest will tell you to go to the bath houses. Budapest is renowned for them, and they are apparently very very relaxing and definitely must see. (Can't recommend any particular ones, because i didn't go to any (I really was quite sick), but i think there's five of them there, with one particularly big one, who's name escapes me, which most people go to.

I was there during the summer, so the clubs might operate quite differently now compared with back then. When i was there, the clubs seemed all to be open air affairs, and some were very classy. One on the south side of the river, Rio's had leaflets lying around on the tables advertising the best service to put new alloy wheels on your Mercedes. Buda beach club was on the other side of the river, and it's a very cool open air club (in the summer at least).

Apparently there's an aquarium there too which is worth seeing.

    Enjoy.

I was there around this time last year, travelled by train from Prague, snow everywhere just like Dr Zhivago... beautiful city

My fav things were going over to the old part of the city, Pest, the chain bridge etc and all the lovely bridges crossing the Danube. The Fenicular (if thats how you spell it) is really cool, but I love them anyway, what a view, well worth buying a ticket for that when you cross over.

Whatever your taste in music DO NOT LEAVE Budapest without visiting the Opera. I am a fan but this was the most spectacular Opera house I have seen in a long time, and it cost less than a euro to get in... amazing, even if you only stayed for the first half of something, it is an experience.

If you are into history, like me, then there is a great museum called the House of Terror (http://www.inyourpocket.com/hungary/budapest/en/venue?id=HUBDENW0092). This building was once home to the Nazis and Communist occupiers of Hungary and it is really a chilling experience. I wont say anymore cos I dont want to wreck it, but if you think you could handle a visit I would rec. it.

    hope that helps.. Enjoy

been there a couple of times, but quite a long time ago. I'd agree with steveire though a visit to the baths is a must. Gellert baths are defintiely worth a visit. There's also a pretty amazing flea market - i think its called Esceri

    Thanks for the help guys.
Is it exepnsive there for food/drink?
Also has anyone been to any of the casinos there? Might be interested in some blackjack and the like.
I heard the torture museum is good, aslo the statue park is supposedly a must see. Will have to give the baths a shot too, when in rome eh!

I was there a couple of years ago.

Loads of sightseeing things to do.

Crossing that danube into pest (Its a wide bridge) and going up the cable cart is very good.

You will have loads of things to do. Churches and all that.

    Food was grand price.

    Might be different now

Was over in Budapest only a week or so ago, getting cold there now, pack warm clothes! As said before, chain bridge, baths, (szechenyi baths rock!) Walk up Gellert hill, bit of a walk but really worth it! Opera is worth a look as said before. The resturant spoon on the river is amazing, as are the prices. Food in general is not to bad, nor is drink. Head into Gerbeau tea cake cafe, (mmm cake....) Other than that it, I'm sure you will have a great time and enjoy Budapest!:)

There's lots of these kind of places around:

Consider taking a bus tour to see the place:
