Good Morrow fair contestants... I want a photo that just oozes motion or gives the impression of speed. Something that suggests either of the two above would suffice. Get your thinking caps on and polish your.. ahh forget it, just send a picture that fits the topic to boardsphotochallenge@gmail.com before the 20th of this month. Attachments only; for every link I find I shall kill you.

And dont forget the longest side is to be max. 800px.

    Nice idea rymus..

I actually removed that as a rule.. now it's just a strong suggestion.

really, well it's a good idea because most of the time if an image is big, it's off putting.. :)

yes it's a good idea, but not one that the majority of people were obeying. Therefore, instead of DQ'ing practically every entry...

I'll volunteer to resize the images before the judging phase if that helps -

Perhaps an idea would be to use some sort of gallery application with three sizes: thumbnail. mid(max 800 per side) and original?

I don't want to put any work on rymus (plus I'm sure he's either thought about it or is using something similar for what he has) so I'd be willing to set it up, but it's rymus' call seeing as he runs these challenges.

I have thought about it and even went so far as to check a few apps out but never actually saw anything through to completion. If you want to set something up by all means do so and we can test it out over the course of the next few challenges.

What about using flickr to host 'em in a set?

    ed:
Actually, how are you doing it at the moment? Manually putting pictures into a table? And then link directly to the image? (Even if it were linking to a .html - it could force a resize (Although, this may be undesired if the image is desirably smaller..mmm)

im using dreamweaver to create a web gallery. I dont want to use html code to resize images because it generally does a crap job of it. I was looking into using imagemagick on my webhost but I lost interest fairly quickly

I used to use flickr but just got out of the habit.

I'll certainly get around to it, but not for a few days at least. I'm in the middle of a server move, which requires most of my attention right now.

If I was submitting a picture, I certainly won't want somebody else editing it for display.

Flickr would be the best job really I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

People should just submit it at 800px max. end of..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,651 ✭✭✭Enygma

Yes but rymus still has to create the gallery, create thumbnails etc. I think a flickr group would be the best option. We'd all just submit our images to that group and the gallery would automatically be created, size wouldn't be an issue and neither would generating a gallery.

Just like they do it here: http://digitalphotography.weblogsinc.com/

Well if Rymus wants to continue doing it then he shoule get the microsoft powertoys photo resizer - just a right click and you can resize all photos selected to a custom size making thumbnails and photos of 800 pixels really easy to create.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx is the linky. i use it to resize for sending on messenger and things like that

Well, there are numerous applications & plug-ins and what nots (PS can do it,etc.) to batch resize photographs - the main problem is what if the image is intended to be smaller than the max size of 800px? Please, only recommend a solution that will only resize if the image is > 800px..

Dont worry I haven't entered that. However I was tempted because of the whole double meaning thing going on. But dont worry I've spared you. Only messing, Thanks Fester, I take that as a compliment.
