    Well worth posting, indeed.

A nasty looking crash/derailment is shown in some of the photos. What happened there?

Not too sure to be honest, it was around the summer of 1989, and the only memory I have of the story is that a log or railway sleeper was left on the line.

Maybe someone else can shed some light? The exact location was around 100 meters north of the station, the train was travelling northbound on the southbound track (which back then was very common practice to allow the enterprise to pass it)

I have no memory of that derailment happening, but those carriages were far superior to the crap they have on the line now.

What happened apparently is that a train derailed, and slid for a short distance. Trainset was a push-pull coach set with a 121 class (really old) locomotive.

The "crap" you have now are 29000 class railcars from CAF in spain these are all recent purchases, they are designed for short haul use only and the suspension blows.

If you think you've got it bad you should try taking them on a Commuter journey to Longford. The ride is terrible, better put on your seat belt .... oops there aren't any.

And IE wants to send those trains to do the Dublin-Sligo Intercity line ...

The 2900s are doing nicely for IE to drive all of the remaining Rosslare line passengers over to the superior bus service.

And they are also planning to scrap most of the Mk3 coaches that OFDM quite rightly described as far superior despite them being only at half-life age and in excellent condition.
