Well, all 6 films now on DVD an on my shelf

Despite GL intentions, I would always initiate the films to the ignorant in the following order

    4,5,6,1,2,3

Is there any reason to go 1-6?
I just cannot see why anyone would ruin " I am your father " from ESB

    Nah I'd go with his intention 0f 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6

I think the way he's intentioned it now is that we're supposed to be all knowing when we watch 4, 5 & 6, and can view Vader in a more sympathetic light. the whole I am your father thing is meant to be a life changing moment for Luke, not us IMO, it's almost Coronation Street-esque now, knowing storyline information before it happens, watching the films to see the reactions of characters to storylines we already know about.

For a repeat marathon viewing it should be in the order 1-6.

However I do agree with you that If I was giving them to a first time viewer I'd definetly tell them to watch them 4,5,6,1,2,3. If they're still interested after ep4 and watch all 6 then they can go back and watch them again sometime in chronological order for further appreciation

Not much of a contribution but FWIW my preferred order is: 4, 5.

Unless you've already seen them, the movies are meant to be viewed in the order of 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3.

But lets face it, whoever hasn't seen Star Wars at this stage probably isn't going to either in most cases.
