Anyone actually got their hands on either of these games and tried them out at a games fair or anything?.

I'm going to buy them anyway, just wanted to know what peoples opinions were. I'm sure Mario Kart is good as it's basically the excellent N64 game, just that I don't know much about the Sonic game, if it's basically a prettier version of the Megadrive games I won't bother.

No it isn't and I hope to god it isn't anything like the overrated N64 game with loads of boring long races with no turns whatsoever (think the awfulness of rainbow road). It seems to be closer to double dash and will feature levels from DD and MK64 I've heard.

I think possibly one of my favourite Mario Kart games to date (in single player at least) is Super Circuit on the GBA - that was awesome! Other than that it has to be the original on the SNES, good old multiplayer days.. :)

Don't think I'll be picking it up, pretty bored of the Mario Kart series now.

    Although online play intriges me...

To be completely honest, I'm feeling the same way about Mario Kart too. I know at the start of this thread I said I was going to definetely buy it, but I started thinking to myself they're practically all the same game, having owned the SNES, N64 & GBA versions, I don't know if I can be bothered to pay €50 for the same game again now!. It's the great Nintendo DS game drought that's making me think these crazy thoughts you know!

shouldnt be too slow on isdn if theres no voice traffic then there shouldnt be too much bandwidth being used and isdn used to be the prefered way to get online with its low pings if i do remember.

Mario Kart N64 was the daddy. Even if Rainbow Road was ghey. I mean who wants a 7 minute long race in Mario Kart

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭1huge1

i read a lot of posts and reviews saying that mario kart 64 and mario kart double dash were crap, well i loved them and if this is anything like them its gonna be class

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

I preferred the 2D Mario Kart games myself, love the SNES and GBA versions. Double Dash was fun, but very easy and it didn't have enough tracks. Mario Kart 64... Rainbow Road was horrible! Rainbow Road is what makes a Mario Kart game! And for that the GBA one with the jump rails everywhere = win :)

i was hoping not that many people would be pre-ordering do you think i should?
i want to have the game first day or at least during that weekend

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,679 Mod ✭✭✭✭Rew

I was planning on dropping down to my local GAME over lunch to pre order just in case.

    Good idea :p

do gamestop do pre orders? because the one i want to go to is in a hotspot so all i have to do is go to the car in the underground car park and play it and not look like a twat

I'll hope not too many pre-order Mario Kart in Gamestop, I wouldn't want to hype myself for it so much to find I may have to wait a few more weeks. I'll probably try to preorder if I'm ever in Gamestop again, though I probably won't be anytime soon.

Got Mario Kart DS this morning in bestbuy. This is amazing, they have put all the best bits together......you can play against bots in battle mode, Sweet.

I read a review yesterday it got a '9.5 Incredible'
    It SO deserves it.

If you owned a SNES, loved Mario Kart, and Dont have a DS......Get one.

The second screen (touch screen) top down view makes the game even better than the original.

The Kart handles like the Snes version too.

    GET IT NOW!!! :D

What do you mean joystick? I presume you mean without a joypad.
Its pretty good actually, close to the snes version

Can't wait to get back to EB after work.

They didn't have my pre order this morning! Bastards. Though I probably would have gotten even less done today than I actually did. They'd better have it by the time I get there tonight.

I need some multiplayer Mario Kart. NOW! GODAMNIT NOW!

Isn't the release date here not until the 25th? Where are you guys getting this?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,679 Mod ✭✭✭✭Rew

Well EB and Best Buy are both large American chains...

I'm over in California on training atm.
    Released on Tuesday (Yesterday).

It's getting good reviews but I still don't think I'll get it. Usually with DS games I don't know what to expect and that's what draws me to them. Mario Kart is Mario Kart though. A handful of refined additions isn't going to excite me.

In any case I'd definetly need a good play of the thing before making up my mind.

I'd say the most important factor in whether or not I buy this game will be if my mates buy it too, it's the same of all Mario Kart games, regardless of how good the actual gameplay it quickly gets tiresome in single player, it's strongest point is multiplayer. I'm not completely sold on playing against people across the net either, where's the fun in thrashing randomers?. Overall, netplay for Mario Kart is a nice inclusion but it must be said; nothing comes close to playing multiplayer games with your friends in person! :D

I just saw Sonic Rush in Xtra-vision today, I was quite suprised to see it released a week earlier then expected, I wasn't all too interested in Sonic Rush so I decided to look around the shelf for Mario Kart DS, but sadly it wasn't there. Though if my friends and I are in Bray tomorrow I'll be taking a look around for it just to be sure, but naturally I'll need to have the €45 with me.

I've been anticipated this game for so long, the thought that we could have had it last friday, before America (So rarely do) makes me angry and feel incredibly impatient. Two weeks may seem like nothing, but living through it now is hella hard for me, especially considering how slow my week is.

EDIT: Yep, I'm confused, did they set it back a week because I've been reading the 25th for a long time, and it's the 18th suddendly? I should pay more attention.
