    Hi All,

    Am looking for a large LCD similar to the Dell 24" widescreen one. I was going to buy the Dell one last week, but forgot to complete the transaction and now their special offer is over :( so it will cost me an extra EUR400....

    Anyone know of alternatives or if/when the dell one is headed for another price drop?!?!?

    Cheers,
    JAb

    am thinking of getting the same screen,

    never thought of checking there....
    nice price....
    cant add it to my cart tho (there is no button) so assume they are out of stock (even though the stock status says its in stock?!). As such, dont know how much shipping would be?

    Just got a mail from overclockers wanting me to fax/snail mail copies of visa statements, utility bills and drivers license!?!?!?!?....

    <rant>
    I know what its for, but its nuts that someone should have to go through that sort of hastle with an on-line retailer. You dont have that sort of cr*p when buying from Dabs, Komplett, Jes or Scan. Really is a pain and I refuse to go to that sort of hastle. They need to change their VISA provider to facilitate me, I shouldn't be inconvenienced to satisfy their supplier?!!...
    </rant>

    So, long story short. Anyone know of anywhere else where these puppies can be got?

    Cheers,
    Jab

    Jab - I'm just going through the exact same thing at the moment, in fact I read your post right after I clicked 'send' on the irritating WE DO NOT USE EMAIL contact us page, telling them that I bought a full system off them a couple of weeks ago and my address matches that on my credit card and if thats not enough then cancel my order.

    I don't know why OCUK are asking for this kind of verification, is this a new policy?

    I managed to get one of these last week, absolutely fantastic monitor. I got it for €946 inc. vat and delivery through www.dell.ie/epp with a 3 year next day replacement warranty. I'm sure the Dell prices will fall back down if you wait, but that might not be an option for you

    I know how you feel!!!....grrrr!!!

    I have never bought from them before, so I dont know it its a new policy. Apparently the use a credit card company (cant remember the name, but something similar to WorldPay) as opposed to dealing directly with VISA. The restriction around address verification is imposed by the intermediary CC company and not by VISA themselves (eg: the 3% visa levy covers fraud and fees!).

    Its absolutely nuts that the need this extra step. I really do hope that lots of people see this and decide against purchasing from them as a result. With a little bit of negative PR and a decline in sales, maybe they will rething their service supplier in favour of one that is actually customer friendly!!!

    If only I hadn't procrastinated originally, I would now have one too for a similar price!!.... Grrr!

    Pixmania have brought in this policy too. Personally, I wouldn't buy from anyone who requires me to fax them bills or ID. The idea of shopping on the net is convenience. These security checks are not convenient.

    Froogle (http://froogle.google.co.uk/) might be able to locate something for you.

    I didn't, because they were charging 792 for the same damn monitor in Germany. I rang them four times on the freephone number, sat on hold for 20 mins each time and never got through. I just wanted to know how they could justify a > 100 EUR difference (once you take VAT differences into account).

    we are just willing to pay more, well most of us anyway
    simple demand pull inflated prices and our higher price elasticly of demand (economics jargon) We just happen to have more disposable income than the Germans so dell can charge us more

    This seems even cheapqer

    Got me thinking, these things are even cheaper still on US EBAY, I wonder would it work out to buy one there (for peanuts) ship it over bang in a power converter and away you go?????

    I did some checking dell machines are indeed dual powered european/american as pauly has mentioned, So just wire up a standard three pin plug and flick the switch at the back.
    So simply use the deals provided for Dell US and then have it shipped within the US to family or a friend there (we all must have someone) who then sends it over.

    FYI - I ended up buying the monitor from eBay.co.uk for just over EUR900. It also came with a no dead pixel guarantee!!....and now that I have one, I am blown away by it!.....Seriously, if you need a new monitor, get one of these puppies!

    One question - This is a HD TV right?, it says HD ready but does that actually mean it's a HDTV or that it's capable of displaying high definition images in 1280x768 resolution but its not actually a HDTV (whereas a dedicated HDTV's resolution is 1366x768) ?

    LOL it can do a lot more than that! it does 1920*1280 - it's the full big deal! The 24" one is what I'm talking about btw.

    Okay I get you now, but can you tell me if this is a bonafide HDTV please, I'm thinking of picking it up to go with my Xbox 360 and don't want to to be conned into buying something that isn't an actual HDTV!

    19" Dell
