Unplugging and Booting up

    Hi,
    Just 2 quick questions.

    1) Sometimes when I unplug my laptop, while it's on, the mouse pointer freezes and I have to push the power button until it switches off. Is there a proper way to unplug it if it's powered up?

    2) When I boot up, I get a welcome screen and have to choose an account and choose to boot into it. Is there any way I can just pick it so it boots into the same one every time without a prompt? I've gone to the user account login thing in control panel but there is nothing that will enable me to boot up without having to choose an account to log in. I only have the one account on my laptop too so it seems quite pointless.

    Any feedback appreciated:)

for the second question get tweak UI for windows xp.

    logon >> autologon

set it to the account you want to log into and set your passwords and everything and it will log into the account you want.

Oh yeah, it's the touchpad, sorry:)

Cremo is it Tweak UI or Tweak XP I should be looking for, I think I've used tweakXP before on my other laptop to get rid of the recycle bin.

    Thanks for the replies!

I'm not too sure.. it might, I'm sure it probably does because I'm sure I've tried Ctrl Alt Delete when it's happened. Maybe not though..

Just something to check , it may not be the solution to your first question but worth a look anyway. Go into device manager. Under 'Mice and other pointing devices', double click on the entry for the touchpad to bring up the properties.(it may have some title other than touchpad depending on the maker of your laptop). In the 'Power management' section ensure that it is unticked where it says 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' . If it is ticked then the laptop could be switching off the touchpad immediately when it detects that you have changed over to battery power. I think the setting was really intended to save power if the laptop is left idle while in battery mode, but it could be the cause of your problem.

if it is then it could be a hardware error...if not it could be the touch pad...if u have a mouse try plugging that into the laptop to see if it still happens...also check that the power managment system isn't disabling the touchpad to save power
