Strange Azureus problem

I find that Azureus will download fine while i'm surfing the net but once i leave it alone for more than an hour or so....the dl speeds decrease till it ceases all together. This happens even when there are loads of available seeds.

This is extremely annoying as i'd like to leave the computer running all day but there is no point with this problem occuring.

Any ideas on what might be causing the problem and possible solutions

For a quick and easy solution - Try Bitcomet :)

Are you perhaps using ZoneAlarm as your firewall? I experienced similar sounding problems with ZA. I now use Sygate Personal Firewall instead and have no problems.

I find azureus tends to run a lot faster when I close firefox and anything else that might possibly be utilising a port.

Might be something to do with traffic-shaping at your ISP maybe?

[edit] I assume you've checked for NAT erros and such...

yep have all the ports forwarded and no nat errors when things are working.

Recently changed from clicksilver to BT(esat). this didn't happen with clicksilver, so maybe it is the isp....

is there a work around or have any other BTireland users suffered something similar

I'm BT and always have been....perhaps try changing the default listen port to a higher range....I just stuck a 1 in front of mine (I was getting slow speeds and it kinda fixed it at the time I think)

This may also be a contention problem...perhaps when your line has apparently less traffic (due to browser being disused) your bandwidth is slowly being leeched by other users on your exchange...

Also try messing with your global upload speeds...inside Az itself...I found choking my u/l speed back improved my d/l speed dramatically. Not really fair on other peers but since we have such dismal upstream as standard in this country who can really blame us...?

    hmm...done all that. :)

its weird....when i use azureus on the laptop thru the wireless connection of my router it dls fine and works all night. the wired connection thru the same bb router is into my desktop.

Wonder what it is....probably some unticked option either in the azureus or router admin:rolleyes:

Probably unrelated but I too have noticed faster d/l speeds on the laptop (ftp not torrent) through a wireless connection when compared to a standard wired NIC on the desktop. I have no idea why (tested it on the same sites)...

you'll just have to quit work, RuggieBear to make sure those downloads finish. Must be an ISP thing though :)

have you tried to limit the upload on Azureus.

Try setting it to 9-11KB/s and maybe limit the number of connections to 400 (think thats there by default anyway)
