Has anyone installed Corel Linux yet?
If so how does it perform to
some of the more popular flavours?

dont think there should be much difference in performace between any of the linux distributions, normally they are fairly close, the main difference is configuration

FreeBSD is supposed to be faster(when running native binaries) and more secure than Linux, and it can run linux binaries for compatibility.. but you have to set up things the way you want it first, which can take ages the first time around.
if its performance your looking for, your probably better off using FreeBSD in the end (this is why servers normally use freebsd over linux)

Corel linux is grand, I have it on an old machine...but its totally aimed at the real linux newbie, a kind of cut down red hat or other proper dis , aimed at non technical users.

Give it a lash , its only 214 mb or so download.

    hi,

installed it and thought it was nice, but its a bit silly the way they don`t include things like kernel source, although i can`t member if i did a custom install or not, tis grand if u just wanna get linux installed on a box and stuff, playing games might be hard, what with all the nice kernel rebuilding for v3's , but i recon v2's would work nps, might try it out on old box if can get lend of cd again, or i might just d/l it smile.gif..

twas nicely done although i think rh6.1 is nicer..hope rh6.2 is even nicer..

    later

    yep indeed ronin.
Easy to use for the newbie though.
One thing it surely does is, its a very good starting point. As the days progress i find myself using linux more and more often, and win 9x more and more seldom. An ominous sign ?
openlinux or redhat or suse latest kernel is better for other things, and corel linux is also better for other thins. Hmm...making myself clear as usual eh ? wink.gif

IMHO Corel are going to start using Linux are there Default OS. So it make's sence to do your own distro that you can support. There going to take the M$ approch. Control every thing! Only I think They might do it a bit better, and more openly.
