What is ur IP address? Enter the default gateway as x.x.x.1 where the x.x.x is the first 3 parts of ur IP.
You can force it on the card instead of DHCP by going to TCP/IP properties of the network card in control panel-> network places.
It is strange that it stopped working though as you are still getting IP addresses

It is whatever the ip address of your router (or modem for that matter, if you don't have a router)

    DUN or BBand?
Check browsers proxy settings (Unlikely that both were changed-but possible..)
Ping the router (IF there is one) - OK?
    Ping www.google.ie - OK?
    Ping 216.239.59.103 - OK?

post what it says when you do ipconfig/all

if address is 169.254.x.y then you aren't being given a IP address by whatever you are plugged into. reset the wireless or BB device.

When you run ipconfig/all is the default gateway missing? If so the router could be ****ed. I would try reseting the router orThe best thing would be to asign Ip and try force back, otherwise contact manuf as it sounds like it could be ****ed.

    1. You're using broadband or dialup? Provider Name?
    2. Assuming broadband DSL. You have the ethernet DSL router or USB DSL modem?

    Assuming a router
With DSL sometimes your ISP switches hardware at their end and your router might need to be reset (a reboot, not the reset to factory settings button ).

    3. can you access the web configuration page of the router? Is the link light on your network card / corresponding port light on the router lit?
    4. Try 'ipconfig /renew'
    See whether the settings change
    5. Try 'route print'.

    If all else seems ok
    6. You can manually set the gateway of your PC using
Network & dialup connections/Local Area Connection (again I'm assuming ethernet DSL router here)
In Local Area Connection Properties, select Internet Protocol, click Properties.
Click advanced. In the lower box you can add a default gateway that will override the (nonexisting) entry provided by your router. This should be the IP of your router.
