New lightweight laptop advice

    Hi,

I am looking to buy a laptop for my own [business] use. We use only Dell PCs in the office so I have checked out Dells range of laptops but none of them grab me (apart from a couple of the high-end Precisions that are 2.5k+).

I will be replacing my office PC with this laptop so I will require a docking station in the office, allowing me to connect it to keyboard, mouse and our network. I will be bringing it home each day and plan to use it on my wireless (802.11g) network at home.

Ideally I would like it to be fairly lightweight (say 2.5kg or less) with a 15.4 or 17" screen. Would be willing to pay up to about EUR 2k and would like a "cool looking" laptop for that money. None of the Dells look cool to me, they all seem to have the same boring design.

I will be using it for some business travel but most of the time it will be connected to the mains so a long battery life is not critical.

    Anyone got any suggestions?

    Much appreciated.

    jayo

With that kind of a budget your options are plenty and theres some gorgeous laptops from several vendors that would suit. Sony VAIOs are probably one of the sexiest looking IMO, Fujitsu Siemens as well but you'd probably like the look of the VAIOs better. For that kind of money you'd get a top end Acer, maybe have a look at the ferrari models if they float your boat. More bank for buck with Acer but more style with Sony or FSC. They all have good aftersales as well. IMO as well Sony displays are the best lookin slim/sexy but high end FSC or Acer should be as good performance wise, maybe not as good weight/style wise.

You can pretty much be sure all laptops over 1K will have 802.11G, DVDRW and all the other bits you need so make sure and get a look somewhere at the pysical size/shape/weight and give the screen a good ogle. Its amazing the difference between displays.

Google will give you plenty of places selling all the above or head into your local shop.

Hi all, I received the laptop today - will be spending most of the night in front of it I suspect :)

thelad, sorry about not getting it from your site - I did check out the site but somehow I missed the 4005 on your site. One point I wanna make though is the lack on contact information on your site (apart from a mobile number) - I would be kinda cautious buying from a site with those dtls missing.

    Cheers
