Sheesh! :) lol, I agree with most of your team, except I'd have Crawford instead of Stuey Byrne, JC is a god!

After last nights performance I'd be inclined to agree but I have Stuey in purely for the man-marking job he did on Valeron in Landsdowne.

    Danny O'Leary

    Robbie Hamm---Des Hope---Ghrame O'Keefe---Alan Kelly

    Stevie Gavin---Fiacra McArdle---Damien Rushe---Ardien Carbary

    Anthony Flood---Noel McGee.

none of you have seen mcgee play but wait for next season.
If we (athlone town) can keep Flood for another season him and mcgee will tear the first division apart.

Was just waiting for someone to do something like that. I suppose you'd call them "Athlone Town" or something and put them 10 points adrift at the bottom of the first division? :p;)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,300 ✭✭✭✭Seaneh

The problem with Athlone is that they play football and not just hoof it about the pitch like most of the other teams in the league.
also most pitches in the division are a joke and it's hard for them to play the attacking passing football that they like to play.

the fact that out two central midfeilders are attacking players who are very good passers and good on the ball rather than scumbags on the putch to break the other team up (I'm looking at colm fortune here as an example) proves that we are trying to play football.

We could just as easily stick tom silke up front and hoof it to him, but we dont, we play Flood and Moran and even bring on Daveron to try change it around.

We are only about 3 players away from being a good first division team, we proved that friday night.

P.S. o'Leary and flood are the best players in the division in thier posistions!

Baker!? Gavin!? Surely nowhere near any dream team, Baker can't even make the Shels team ffs

Without putting too much thought into it so probably a few omissions that should be in

    Quighley

    Heary
    Hawkins
    Murray
    Murphy

    Ndo
    O'Callaghan
    Gamble
    Hoolahan---

    Farren
    Byrne

    Devine
    Beckett
    Ristilla (Outrageously misused by Drogheda)
    Fahey
    Farrelly

Yes, only one Derry player, their strenght is more in their team work then individual brilliance I'd say. Shels get the most players, yeah I'd be biased, but they do have the best individuals in the league I feel, just haven't clicked enough for the season. Only one player out of the top three which is controversial and probably wrong but that's the way I'd see it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

i saw baker against rovers when gough missed the penno and baker tore us apart he was one of my 1st choices, to Sarge i'd have peter hynes if i was to pick one but just because i went to school with him

I think Baker has more cards than appearances! :D He's alright, effective when we play hoofball, but without Crawley hoofing the ball at him he's not that great :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

he can take on players, he is a hot head though

I'll go with that. Baker isn't even in my top 3 Shels wingers these days. Great on his day and in the air but not much else.

On loan for 8 weeks. I think the side he joined are going to get relegated so he will most likely be back.

Stunned that no-one has even mentioned Barry Murphy for goalkeeper. He's been outstanding all season.

I find it hard to believe McCarthy is even a good striker at first division level tbh, but good luck to him, he was always a committed hard worker.
