    I can remember when Eurosport went off the analouge ntl, But I am very surprised that it is not on the digital platform? I know its not the best of sports channels but there are some programming I like on it. When I changed from Sky to ntl I was told I wouldn't loose any sports channels, But I have!

    either Eurosport are asking for too much money or ntl are hungry and wont part with the money

    i will go for the Eurosport asking for too much. shame really as it is a good sports channel along with Eurosport 2 considering they are not premium

    It was a case of Eurosport wanting too much money and NTL going bust. I'm surprised they havn't tried to get it back lately. I know quite a few people want it.

    Wasn't it a thing that NTL wanted to put it on the Digital (not analogue) and Eurosport said no?:confused:

    I think that was an issue. Eurosport did not want to be removed from analogue (for dubious viewer figure reasons) and put on a platform only a fraction of the viwers received.

    NTL saved money for themselves (not thier customers) by dropping Eurosport.

    ntl ditched eurosport as they wanted to charge for it. eurosport HAS to be offered free of charge, but as ntl wanted to charge for it, eurosport would not allow them to transmit it.

    If then why is it on Sky? You need a sky sub to watch EuroSport GB and Eurosport 2, you cannot get them FTA. So how is this different from NTL putting it on the basic digipack and charging for the basic digipack which is by extension charging for eurosport.

    That said, I hated Eurosport, it always had crappy ice skating on it and I much prefer the discovery channel replacing it, eventualy, although NG was good as well.

    So, what's the best way to get Eurosport if you live in Dublin?

    Whatever anyone says about its faultls, and there are many, Eurosport is THE best channel for coverage of that most televisual of sports, namely, tennis.

    Right now, even if you have Sky Sports, you cannot watch the Australian Open. Ditto the French in a few months time.

    Corus include Eurosport as part of their basic package in Cork.

    So, what's the best way round this problem for someone living in an apartment?

    Thanks.

    D.

    Somebody please tell me that's sarcasm. Tennis is about as televisual as watching the laundry go round in the washing machine...

    thank you for your wonderful input zaph :)

    if in an ntl area to see Eurosport you will need satellite. the international version of Eurosport is available FTA in English with an analogue box and satellite dish pointed at Astra 1. digital sadly is German only :(

    although not the same as British Eurosport they are very very similar

    I think that is urban myth as to why it is not on NTL
    Astra @19E has FTA Eurosport in German (tennis balls sound the same in German). It's the only FTA Eurosport.
    The analog one has less and less English, I it is still there, you need to search the audio channels. The "default" is probabily not English.

    In my book NTL got rid of digital to sell Sky, simple as that

    http://www.bringbackeurosport.com

    You can still get eurosport on the old analogue astra satellite, so if you can dig one out of somebody garage somewhere you're in business

    God damn it, they're showing the African Nations Cup :mad: :mad: :mad:
    I'll never buy anything off NTL again!!

    Yeah with black surrounds (I suspect a widescreen formating issue)

    ah yes, the BBC broadcasting a 16:9 programme where the vast majority of the content is 4:3. just looking at it now through satellite (is the commentator talking through a telephone?)

    if you set your ntl box to 4:3 it should fix the issue for you

    British Eurosport is at least part-owned by NTL.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

    thought ntl sold that off before not that it makes much of a difference see as ntl Ireland is seperate to ntl now

    Simply, if Corus offer Eurosport as part of their basic package, why can't those tossers NTL?

    eurosport is a better channel for me than sky sports.

    ntl reckoned, and they are probably right, in ireland as the majority of the people dont watch "the kind of sports" that irish people watch. i remember asking them to put the french open tennis on in a pub once and i was laughed out of it cause the horse racing was on. ireland is so coloqial its unreal.

    i remember NTL came up with some kind of line about eurosport being a minority channel that didnt fit in with its mainstream audience. i will never forgive them for it. although their BB is wonderful, i switched to SKY TV for 5 reasons:
    1. eurosport
    2. eurosport
    3. eurosport
    4. sky sports xtra (american football)
    5. sky+

    ha ha you got to admire the wit on the bring back eurosport website:

    "Have a look at what you could be watching on Eurosport today , if it hadn't been removed from the cable. I know - it's heartbreaking. You've already missed the final of the African Nations Cup (involving Cameroon, one of our opponents in the World Cup), the Winter Olympics, and the European Indoor Championships. Here are some of the live events that you'll miss over the next few weeks:

    * Cycling (Paris - Nice)
    * Road to World Cup 2002 Friendlies
    * World Superbikes
    * WTA and ATP Tennis
    * 24 hour Le Mans
    * Figure Skating World Championships

    * Curling World Championships
    * Moto GP
    * Formula 3000
    * U-17 European Football Championships
    * Super Racing Weekend

    You won't see those on other sports channels, even if you pay the extra to get them.

    It's time to do something about this!"

    yeah i would love to have the eurosport to see the tour de france and not in irish on TG4..
    They also had the highlights on at about 1-30am.
    Maybe its setanta chance to be bigger and better in the future.

    Would much prefer to see tour de france on setanta than TG4 because i could understand it.
    TG4 only got it anyway as they got to use the taxpayers money to outbid setanta.
    With setanta being free on ntl they must have at least 300,000 subscribers so pretty good acess there.

    Just on another point i hate when people throw the word rape into a conversation like that.
    Its a serious demeaning violent sexual crime mostly afflicted on woman,and people have started to introduce it more in to general conversation much to my distaste.
    Thats just my IMHO.

    and totally irrelevant to this thread. you knew exactly what i meant

    now to your point about how it would be great if Setanta got the rights. not so good for anyone who has to pay extra to see the channel. did you rejoice when the Heineken Cup left terrestrial tv. maybe when the international football looked like it was gone to Sky Sports you celebrated that too. the fact that Setanta is free on one provider does not make it ok for sporting coverage off an Irish terrestrial to join it

    I wish NTL & Europsort would just get it together!

    watching class winter olympic coverage on Eurosport through their online subscription service - neat idea. Much better than watching the british biased BBC coverage.

    Come on guys, sort it out:mad:
