There are many ways to go about this...

you could remove the frets from an existing bass...

you could buy a fretless neck for an exising bass and just replace the fretted and fretless neck as you see fit...

or buy a new bass altogether...

    Have you played fretless before?

Personally, I think this would be a welcome addition to any speed metal band...
think of the fame and notoriety you'd receive...

It's $650 tho, a little more than you wanted to spend :)

Ishibashi.co.jp do a really good '62 reissue Fender Jazz with a lined fretboard. All you have to do is fret on the lines, and you stay in tune! It's easy. But it's not a very metal sound... :)

I know, I have one, but it'll cost more than €600 after import duty and tax.

*cough* *cough* Steve Di'Giorgio *cough* Tony Choy *cough*

Korvanica, Im thinking about getting a fretless next, so let us (or me) know how you get on if and when you get the fretless. My next big purchase will be a G-K Backline 600 with 2 cabs, to set me back just over €800, and after that ill buy either a fretless 5-string or this baby. Played one while on a visit to hamburg and i fell in love.

Damn ****ing right! A pair of legends right there indeed.

Got a nice Dean Rhapsody Fretless myself, which I really recommend if you can find one.

Tony Choy didn't play fretless though, it was Sean Malone who played fretless on the album :)

All I said was a pair of legends, but yeah, we can easily add Sean Malone to that. ;)
