Around Bundoran is great for surfing, although in the town itself, the surf waves break right beside rocks(bit dangerous, like!). The best waves in europe are in Donegal.

    Hi Soph,
Lahinch, Crab Island (Doolin) or Doonbeg. all pretty nice surf spots in the west but not as north as Sligo Donegal! Handier for me anyways.

A beginner could surf Crab Island, but I recommend he/she has a will done up beforehand, because they won't be coming back.

    From http://www.beachwizard.com/beach.asp?country=Ireland&beachid=2010
I have been surfing this spot for at least 5 years, I have seen surfers crack there skulls, break their arms and many, many snapped boards. Most people see the wave from the shore, get excited and then they paddle out and don't even catch one wave because they realise that it's way out of there league because they didn't listen to people saying "only for the very experienced". To surf here you have to be able to cope with looking at the reef inches below you and the fact that if you wipe out you are GUARANTEED to hit the spiky reef. Nice thought! In conclusion, it does get good but you have to know your f#%$in limits!!! Stay at lehinch if you want to have a good surf.

Apologies, I just assumed Soph could surf! I wouldnt reccomend Crab Island to a beginner, if you are a beginner Lahinch is a safe spot and there is a surf shcool there if you need lessons!
If you go further south West Dumps beach Castlegregory is a nice beach for beginners, you dont have to paddle to hard!

    If youre a beginner try
    tullan strand in bundoran
    sreedagh in donegal
    strandhill in sligo
    iniscrowen in sligo
    all beach break

otherwise any reef break in sligo/donegal ie easkey or bundoran

if your a beginner make sure the people your with know the beach and their rips

lahinch is supposed to be pretty nice too
