I wonder will they get the crayons out and change the daft signage they have put up. I was down in Cork and they seem to have got it right with their overhead signage.

It does look like someone has serious time and colouring markers on their hands at NRA HQ. There is probably far to many junctions on the M50 as it is.

??? These are existing junctions, not new (planned) ones.

What I'd like to see is more detailed maps of some of the more complex junctions like the whole Sandyford / Leopardstown area.

ìf I was heading southbound and wanted to go to dunlaoghaire I'd exit at J16 and go through cherrywood and wyattville.

I mean, they've built a flyover and a new stretch of road to facilitate access to the M50 from Dun Laoghaire via J16, but they're still directing traffic from most of the country through Blackrock - why?

    ?

My preference is J15 - Cornelscourt, Foxrock, Deansgrange, Dun Laoghaire

That J14 route that sends you back towards town, and then through Blackrock is madness:confused:

Was driving in Dublin this year for the first time since the M50 was completed, and I was looking for DL harbour. We followed the exit that pointed the way, and then followed the road signs that began to show us the way, and then came to a T junction with no signs. Stopped at traffic lights and wondering what we would do next, the motorcyclist in front leaned over and asked us, in an English accent, for directions to DL harbour. So it wasn't just us :(

We'd just driven from Italy to Dublin via Norway, UK, Rosslare etc. From Dublin we were heading to Portugal. Comparing all of those countries I'd say Ireland is below average when it comes to roadsignage, but it's not the worst. I'd give that award to Spain. The best IMHO was France. A little odd perhaps at first, but once you get used to it you'll never get lost there.

Worst roads was Ireland though. I guess the tiger doesn't drive :(

I defintely agree with your analysis of road sinage in europe and the poor effort we make of it. You should be able to follow where you are going by road signs and not need a map, at least in Dublin anyway.

Absolutely - when we eventually found DL harbour we realised we should have been heading to Dublin Port (now that was our fault). But again, road signs led us in the direction of the port and then we came to a roundabout with no signage.

We drove over a toll bridge but only so we could ask the toll attendant the way to the ferry port and he gave us direct and well rehearsed directions. Along the way from the toll booth we passed through a few roundabouts - more than one of which was unsigned.

If only 3 places were well signposted in Dublin then tourists would have an easier time of it - the Airport and the two ferry terminals. By personal experience, 2 out of those 3 need improving.

I agree with u Bungeecork, i started to drive over 2 years ago now & i still have my lovely 'L' plates up, i had dozens of lesson by a professional instructer & he taught me how to accomplish most situations but i feel a minority of people who has full dirvers licenses don't care for 'L' plate drivers they don't give u a chance to pull out or the 'horn' is blown. But other than that i feel people who have their licenses longer than 10 year should have to re do their driving test after all it's only fair !!
