    Hi all

I'm going to Paris for a week, taking in New Year's Eve. Any suggestions for a nice restaurant for this night and also, where should we go afterwards for midnight???

Any other suggestions for sights, restaurants etc for during the rest of the week would also be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

Hmmmm...I can't really help as I always leave Paris for New Years.

Normally there aren't any official fireworks nor street parties like you find in other cities.

There are over 8000 restaurants in Paris so it's not very easy to suggest anything without knowing what you're looking for and how much you're willing to spend.

There are a LOT of threads about how to travel to Paris and some great suggestions for restaurants/hotels already available in the forum.

I had actually heard that Paris is not a great place to go for new year's- I heard that celebrations tend to be centred around the home therefore it's not as lively around the city as you might expect.

But this is just what I've heard, could be wrong!!

That's true though not always a bad thing as such. I just warn people who expect it'll be like New York or London that it's a little more reserved than that.

In saying that, all the restaurants/bars/niteclubs will be open but if the weather is good then a picnic by the Seine can often be the best and most romantic thing to do. It really depends on what the people who are going expect from Paris.

    Hi All,
Myself and my 6 friends, go away for new years every year, we went to Amerstdam last year, which was brilliant. And this year it was my time to organise it, so i booked Paris for all of us, now im worried that it wont be any good, should I try and cancel it and go somewhere else, or has anyone been to Paris for new years that could let me know what it is like.

Keep in mind we do like a good party!!

That shouldn't be a problem to find.

What you won't find is a state/city "'official" party as you find in a lot of European cities. The bars and clubs will still be full but it is funny when the tourists realize that there aren't any fireworks :)

Ryanair -> 1h15 from city on shuttle bus

Aer Lingus -> 35 minutes from city on Train

Was in Paris a few months back and stayed here :
    http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-0934-mercure-paris-austerlitz-bibliotheque/index.shtml
It was comfortable and not too dear. (Was visiting an exhibition not a romantic weekend!)
Its near Notre dame, and there is a Metro station across the street.
The latin quarter isnt far and there is a lot of reasonably priced restaurants there.
We got a three day ticket for the metro , valid in zones 1, 2 and 3 cost €20 and was really handy for getting around.
