New sound system, completely confused

I got a new speaker system today, well, not new secondhand and theres no instruction manual, not dodgy just some old ones they guy didn't need for various reasons.

Anyway, thought I'd hook them up to the computer.
So I connect everything and have 3 cables, each with 2 plugs at each end.
12 plugs, so I have 6 in the sub-woofer and 6 in the PC, but no idea which one goes where, to make it worse they all have this metal ring on each socket, made up of 4 pieces of metal, needless to say this was stopping me putting the plug in all the way so they came off, I believe this was a mistake but have no idea.
Either way I had 12 sockets, 12 plugs, and 6 of those sockets won't accept more than half the plug so trying all the combinations... I can't remember my A' level stats that well but thats a heck of a lot of combinations.

All I know is they make a lot of noise (buzz, crackle etc...) and don't appear to do much.
DFIs page is fairly unhelpful in terms of telling me anything new about which plug goes where as well so wondering if anyone here had any tips?

The mobo is the DFI Lanparty Ultra-D (which apparently supports up to 7.1 sound, so 5.1 shouldn't be a problem right) but doesn't see fit to label the sockets with anything more than 3 icons and "center" "rear" and "side".
The sound "system" is bush, light oak, one large subwoofer about 40-50cm high with 5 other speakers, 3 are about 20-30cm high and the other 2 about 10-15cm high.

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

    Hey,

    The speakers are all bush.

Ones 40-50cm high which all the leads go into, then theres the 3 @20-30cm and 2 at about 10-15cm high, all light oak.

Cables between subwoofer and PC are black, with a red and white socket on each end, the other cables are white\black and different coloured plugs but all that was already stuck in and stuff so gotta assume thats right!

Any help would be much appreciated!

    What model from Bush?

The 50CM one im guessing the sub-woofer, where you connect your speakers into.

Then there would be a plug with two ends at it - one going from the sub-woofer to the PC. The colours of that cables "plugs" should at least match the ports on the back of your PC (and ur subwoofer should be coloured to match the cable colours too).

If there all connected ok, can you hear even the slighest bit of audio?? Or is it constant crackling?

Dunno the model number, thats the problem :(
I had a look around but couldn't find it.

Yeah, the 50cm one is where everything plugs into, the cables from speakers -> subwoofer are fine for colours, but all the ones from subwoofer are red and white :(

As I don't where to connect them I'm not sure... When I guess I can just about make out audio but theres a high pitched noise as well.

Well I read that page about 10 times, and spent a number of hours failing to get it working.

Then spend 3 days playing on-stop BF2 in the evenings.

Then gave up and hooked it up to my DVD player, guess I'll go buy a proper PC set with instructions for gaming.

You have a subwoofer that accepts phono connections and a card that take small headphone jacks. There are simple adapters that turn a head-phone jack into 2 phonocables. Buy 3.
