Scavenge a DELL PC

I'm thinking of upgrading my PC in the near future but have a few components on my current (DELL) system that are okay, like the 5.1 soundcard and the DVD+RW. not to mention the 1GB RAM that would be a usefull way of jumping into the 2GB club (Although I am aware of the incompatibilities of mixing and matching RAM so perhaps not?). My main query is, how does a DELL like being scavenged or will I have no end of problems when trying to house a piece of hardware in a new box?. Advice welcome.

Depends on your dell specs etc.
What's wrong with your current model?
It's hard to comment if ram etc will be suitable for use with an upgraded system if we dont know the specs of the ram etc!

DELL make about 10% of the PC's world wide and have Dimension , Plex and Workstation ranges that are VERY different from each other. Also the models change a lot over time, last years ones took PS/2 mice and keyboards and IDE drivers , this years ones have USB / SATA.

Post the model number / age - also post the model of soundcard etc. , I assume you aren't talking about on board sound.

Well items like sound card, video card, RAM, DVD drives etc will all run in other boxes (Dell or not). The only prob you'll have is with PSU's and fans as I think they're non standard.

As regards RAM you jsut need to check it will fit the new motherboard.
