ok so i bought an EMG J bass bridge pickup off doctor j on tuesday. sitting here with my soldering iron ready to go. i'm putting it in my mim fender jazz.

let me just say i'm a total noob at this type of **** but i gotta learn some time. i'm going to post here before i complete each step so i dont **** up. your help would be greatly appreciated.

    ok here goes:

The EMG p/u has 1 wire coming out of it but the original p/u has 2, conneted to 2 seperate points on its volume pot....whats going on here?

The EMG has has a core wire in the middle (your hot signal) and a shield around the core (your earth). The earth is generally soldered to the top of the pot and your hot wire should be soldered to one of the three little prongs on the pot.

Edit -> the right side of this pic is how the EMG pickup wire is set up.

thanks. the EMG is Slightly to large for the hole but with a little "encouragement" it should "fit" :D

    ok the EMG is in.

no huge difference between it and stock mexican p/us a little clearer but sounds less powerful

the original pickups cancelled the hum when both at the same volume, this is no longer the case. my bass is now quite noisey and hummy.

4 hours of work and its worse than before. ****

Unless of course you wired it incorrectly, which sounds quite possible.

You shouldn't be getting hum anyway. TBH, try swapping the wires around, just to see if it makes any difference. Also, check for shorts.

The hot and earth wires touching each other. That's a bad thing.
