Awww.. what did you have to go and ruin it for.

Those frantic few moments on the Sunday after when I think I've traveled through time are about the only excitement I get all year.

ok maybe i'm not being very smart in sayin this coz i'm still quite hungover... does this mean we get an extra hour in the nightclubs if clocks are goin back an hour? place closes at 2am so this mean it will actually close at 3am old time?
    does that even make sense???

Actually changing the clock means it's brighter getting up. However the days are shortening anyway, but changing the clocks minimises the loss of early morning daylight. That's the main reason for changing the clocks. Clocks are adjusted to fit the working (and in particular, school) days in to the bright hours.

Incidently, you lose an hour in bed. Assuming you go to bed at midnight, and need to be up at 11am, the clock goes back and hour, meaning you have to be up at 10 am.... hence losing an hour.

You have it wrong John. You don't have to be up at 10am, you still get up at 11am.

Think of it this way: You go to bed at 12am. To get up at 11am. Hours sleep: 11. Now, at 12am, for all intents and purposes, the clocks go back, and it's now 11pm. And you're in bed. Getting up at 11am. Hours sleep: 12.

If the clocks going back your gaining an hour, not loosing one.
