Outlook Emails

Any emails with attachments, old or new, in Outlook 2000 take up to 10 seconds to open. They used to open instantaneoulsy, as emails without attachments still do.

The OS is Windows XP Pro SP2.

I've excluded the .pst file from the virus scan.

I've installed the Skype Email Toolbar recently, but removing it didn't make a difference.

Anything else I could look at?

    Why?

Thought maybe the virus scan on-access scanner might be scanning this file when I open an email.

    Just did it temporarily.

Have you tried the .PST repair tool from Microsoft?

    Just did. No joy.

It seems to be inconsistent, will open fast once, then slow the next time, for any files that have attachments.

I've just noticed that the delay is not in the opening of a message (double-clicking), but the displaying of the message in the preview pane (single-click of the mouse). It displays the message in the preview pane first when I double-click to open the message, so there is a delay here too.

There's no delay anywhere else outside of Outlook.

If this was my own machine I wouldn't be bothered, it wouldn't be a big irritant, but it's on a suits machine in the office and I've been ordered in no uncertain terms to "get this fixed".

    Any other ideas.........

    Hey,

-Get rid of as many old mails as you can - set up auto-archive if possible, the smaller the .pst file, the quicker outlook works, I have found.

    is this pop or imap?

    It's a pop setup.

There are 22 messages in the inbox. None are particularly big. The delay occurs on messages with small (70k) and large (900k) attachments. Archiving is scheduled. The pst file is on the local machine and is 200mb. It that too big? There are 1gb pst files here without any problems. The problem seemed to start suddenly, so don't know if it's down to an increasing pst file.
