Wifi Connection dying when Ftp'ing

Okay I have connected my Xbox to my Dell Inspiron 1200 Laptop, with a crossover cable and using flashfxp.

Now it all works fine can transfer files etc without any issue.

But I am using a Wifi connection to access the internet via a Wifi Card in my PCMCIA slot.

So evertime I connect the crossover cable it kills my internet connection within minutes.

Anyone got any idea's why or how to resolve this.

    Cheers.

Yeah.. i can't use my wireless connection while FTP-ing to the XBox. I'm guessing the detection of cable in the Ethernet overrides the WiFi.

    Anyone got a workaround?

Actualy now that I think of it I'm experiencing the same probs, thought it was just because I was too far away, so went back to crossover to laptop, but if you come a cross the reason and a solution for the wireless cutting off ftp can you post it?
    Google didn't help much..

Same problem here, but changing the subnet didn't help. Whenever there's an ethernet connection the wireless connection is ignored. Very annoying.

After further research, i found out what the excellent XBOXScene has this to say about the matter:

With configuration 1a, you can NOT get out to the internet. You would need to either buy a router or another NIC for your PC.
    Ah well.... there's our answer!

By saying a router do they mean if I had a spare ADSL router with four ethernet ports this would solve the problem ??

wifi card + ethernet card = 2 NICs so you dont need a router.

maybe you have the same IP address assigned to both NICs so when you plug in the cable, the ethernet card interferes with the wifi card. Check the ip address of the wifif card by typing in 'ipconfig' at the command prompt. then try it when the ethernet cable is plugged in and see if the same address is appearing for the ethernet card. (to get to the command prompt click start->run->type 'cmd' (no quotes) and hit enter.) Also, what ip address is the xbox set to?

Right I have found the solution boys:

1.) Laptop is set to IP address:

    IP:192.168.0.1
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0

    NO GATEWAY IP Leave Blank

2.) XBOX is set to :

    IP:192.68.0.2
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0

    Default gateway 0.0.0.0

I think the issue is when there is a default gateway it clashes with the Gateway of the Wireless connection and takes over.

The above works and now I am surfing and ftping at the same time :)

Why not just plug your xbox into the router?
It's a shame to leave it without a net connection if you have bb.

Or just enable internet connection sharing on your laptop over the wired config and set the Xbox to use your laptop's wired interface's IP.
Afair, XP ICS won't work unless the interface you're sharing it out over is set to 192.168.1.1, s your xbox needs to be on the same subnet (ie 192.168.1.x, 255.255.255.0), or just use DHCP - ICS starts a dhcpd on your laptop.
The snag is that the network for your actual BB shared connection can't also be 192.168.1.0 address space.

Only other alternative (which I've no actual experience at setting up under XP) would be to bridge the ethernet and wifi interfaces on your laptop. I don't know what that effectively does (if it's a layer2 or 3/switch or 'router' functional equivalent), but it sounds like it could do what you need

Oh, one more thing, is it that when you plug in the xbox to ytour laptop, you can't access the internet or that you can't ping other machines on your lan (ie you're router)??

In either case, copy and paste the output from the route print command at the command prompt.

Don't specify a gateway in your wired interface's IP config. Or just Disable-Enable the Wifi connection after bringing up the wired one (plugging in the Xbox). Or manually edit the routing table on your laptop.

Yes, no default gateway on the PC's wired LAN port works. Now I can happily get "things" off the internet and transfer them to the xbox for viewing, at the same time.

    Sweet.
