Can somebody explain Saturdays to me...

I thought there was only one Saturday in a week. Is it a freeroll or a €300 freezeout?

What planet are you living on?

A quick point to Dukebox (Is that you Duke in "disguise"? :) ) if you are going to register on the board to pimp the schedule, and to be fair it's something I'm happy to know why not declare your interest/allegiances?? The regular board users may know who you are but not everyone will.

Best of luck with the poker room- i'm sure I'll be calling around to partake in that Thursday game for a start and the early start times (which I hope you observe in practice) will be a great boon to us plebs with day jobs!!

I would imagine it's a typo and means every second saturday of the month.

IE: same as Fitz Thursday freerolls and the monthly 270

Duke - are there any bonuses being offered for the first few weeks?

Of course I'm not saying two Saturdays wouldn't be nice.

    Can Dermot Desmond do that?

    I like that Schedule

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,047 ✭✭✭Culchie

Yes, it's a good schedule, it very accessible for most people's pockets, I was envisaging alot of higher buy-ins than that.

What are parking times/restrictions around there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,450 ✭✭✭califano

Id say the best way is to park where you parked when going to the mayfair, its not all that further a walk.

Now this I think will be a problem, its free parking after 19:00 but you have to find a space, and around Christmas this will be a problem. There are plenty of 24 hour car parks around.

pardon me for not knowing this but what does double chance mean?

Its a tournament were you get half your chips at the start and can call for your other half anytime after the first hand (at no extra cost). It kind of gives you a safety net.

Did anyone notice how the schedule so obvioulsy clashes with the Merrion? The Tuesday $150 FO is on the same night as the Merrion's $100 FO and the end of month tourney is on the same day as well. Pretty sly.

I wonder would a casino featuring more than one weekly tournament with a higher stake buy-in (say a €250 and a €400 weekly) draw enough runners in Dublin? I think the sweet spot for many tournaments at the moment (going by all the pub tournaments organised, I now notice that the local pool hall in Rathmines is running €3000 gauranteed weekly tournaments!) is the €20-€30 rebuy level. €20 sounds like a cheap night out to someone who has seen Late Night Poker and wants some fun - obviously they don't factor in the additional €60 they'll spend on rebuys and €40 they'll spend on booze.

I suppose it could be considered sly alright. Also the fact that they took 15 staff from the Merrion. But it is a business and it will force the Merrion to up their standard if they want to compete. and this is a good thing for the poker players of Dublin.

Welcome to boards, Duke, see you in December when I'm back from my travels.

    Mark Mac.

I dunno, I think the Merrion, if it's to survive is going to have to try and eek out a niche in the market, and high stakes games could be one way of doing it.

The new pub players are soon going to be looking for 'the next stage' for them and will play the casinos at the €20-€50 level.... I can see existing casino regulars wanting to avoid these people (like the freerollers at the moment).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

OK theyve skipped one of the bigger rules on boards. How many starting chips and how long blinds (not that Im allowed play there but Im still interested) Are they going to change structures for the better?

    good point chief.

THIS IS DAITHIO BTW, OCALLAGH STILL LOGGED IN

Went down there tonight and it is very impressive. Can't wait for the tourneys to start, it's going to be great. I didn't catch anything about the structures but it seems like a very customer orientated place, so I'd imagine if we ask for slow structures they'll comply.

Mark- I reckon sly was probably the wrong use of word, it doesn't particularly bother me ethics wise that they're clashing with the Merrion, but personally I'd like to be able to play all three end of month games and not have to worry about clashes.

The race is on to be the first boardster to win a tourament in The Sporting Emporium

I won the Sat €75, do I get a special prize?

Very small turnout (15), was changed to a freezeout instead of the 1 re-buy. Considering the numbers it was a great game. We managed to stretch it out to close to around 5 hours. They have done a super job on the place but I'm not sure it could ever match The Fitz for atmosphere.

i played the €30 rebuy on Sunday, 4 tables, for 5 hours and finished 5th for a profit of €15.

i should get 10%(25%(51%*3.14)) of whatever Davey's prize is :)

Thats a depressing turnover. 36 players?

    What was the payout structure?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭karlh

twas a bit of a joke tbh.

great game i have to say but the payout was silly.

36 players and a prizepool of €2280 i think with first supposedly getting €1200, €700odd for 2nd and measly money for 3/4 and me. when we formed the final table we all agreed 5 payouts was a pity so took 200 off the top for 6/7/8/9. still meant the rest of the strucure was horribly top heavy.

    i got €75, €15 profit since i rebought.

another big problem was the lack of a clock. beeps every 30 mins and then 20 mins (even though the change in length of levels was never announced). at one stage we were playing 100/200, were never told to put the blinds up and after what seemed like a long 30 mins, we were told that we had actually missed a level on our table and the blinds were now 300/600!!! needless to say it was tough for the medium stacks to suddenly be short.

they need to announce structures and get a clock up asap. personally i think that all players should recieve a sheet with structure and rules when handing over a reg fee at all tourneys. wishful thinking.
