Bugger! I forget about this thing every year. It goes right past my house and I have to walk miles to get a bus into town. Maybe I'll just put on a pair of runners instead

    Typical,

Bugger up the transport for a city because of a mickey mouse marathon that should be run out of harms way in the Phoenix park instead of on city streets.

I agree with that, but are you one of the people who argues with the officials who've closed roads? They're just doing their job

I know it's off topic, but that's a reason I've had people trying to plow through the road blocks, and me

It would be impossible to run the marathon on a circuit in the Phoenix park & your remark that it's a 'Mickey Mouse' event is a stupid insult. It's an essential part of the community spirit of Dublin.
10,000 take to the streets for Dublin marathon
The Dublin City Marathon has begun and ten thousand people from Ireland and abroad have taken to the streets, despite the poor weather conditions.

It's the twenty-sixth year of the event, involving professional athletes and members of the public, running to raise money for charity.

More than seven thousand visitors from 63 countries arrived in the capital to take part.

The race begins in Stephen's Green and will head northwards through Nassau Street towards Phibsborough, then through Crumlin to Milltown towards Ballsbridge to end up at Merrion Square about midday.

Now that's taking things a bit far. It's a big popular event. It inconveniences me a little, but to enjoy the benefits of living in a city, we sometimes have to make small sacrifices for the benefit of the wider population. And the marathon is good for the city.

Bee, it isn't just about the 10,000 taking part, but also the spectators and supporters. That said, I wonder it there are ways of reducing the effect. Maybe the should close one carriageway of the M50 sometime and run it along that. Keep the streets clear.
